Weddings - February 2007

My mother is finally getting married!!! The only problem is, I am the maid of honor and I don't have the slightest idea for a bridal shower. It would be a lot easier if my mom hadn't lived on her own for 6 years. I've done research but all the bridal themes include gifts that a newly wed might need. My mother lives in a house that is fully equiped with everything. So themes such as "Around the Clock" and "Room of the House" would not work. She doesn't want to receive gifts that she is going to end up having to sell on eBay. My Mother is also a little conventional so the theme "Naughty and Nice" wouldn't work as well.... PLEASE HELP and TRY TO BE SPECIFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my fiance and i told his mom that we're moving to another state in a few months because its too expensive where we live. well now, she wont even talk to us or be near us because of it. he talked to her yesterday and she told him that shes being like that because if she starts to distance herself now, it will be easier when we move. but its making us not ever want to see her, including at the wedding. we have enough stress with work, the wedding, and moving that we dont need her crap. my shower is coming up and i dont want her there. is that ok to not invite her since she's being ths way. we are also thinking of canceling the wedding and going to city hall so she doesnt have to be there. its not fair to us...but we feel that shes puching us to do this. also...how do you talk to this woman when shes making things impossible?

My mom is throwing a bridal shower this saturday 24th for my soon to be sister in law and the maid of honor was suppose to do it but she didnt know what to do so she called my mom up and asked her if she would throw it. Well we had the perfect idea ofthegift for kallie and since my mom is thorwing the shower she defentailyhas to have a present and if she doesnt have one then it would make her look really bad. So we she had a picture love poem thing done with kallie and bryan as babys and then grown up together and a love poem that my mom and dad worked really hard on. yesterday it was in so we went over there to get it and she said that she has good news and bad news the picture and everything else was done but the poem wasnt there and she said that she would try to haveit done by noon today my mom was so mad she said shes had it for almost a month and now shes going to try to get it done in less then 24 hours .Whatif it doesnt it comein what should my mom get her for a gift help

It's less than 3 months until my wedding. We're getting the addresses together, so no invitations have been sent out yet. The space will only fit around 125 so we're trying to keep the list tight. The problem is, we opened our big mouths and made verbal invites back when we expected to be getting married in 2006, and way before we had sat down and worked out a budget (back when I expected my parents'd be helping far more than they can). My mom invited her cousins whom I barely know and my dad expects me to invite his cousin, who helped me with paying for college in the 20th century but whom I don't know well, either. My fiance and I invited "friends" who have turned out to be, or become, more like acquaintances, and a couple of friends with whom there are now chilly feelings bc of recent history. But the sibling of one we do want to come, so is it ok to invite one sib but not the other? Since we haven't yet mailed any invitations, how can we uninvite certain people we invited way back?

My fiance and I have set our wedding date for 10/4/08. We live in the Rocky Mount, NC, area. We would like to have the wedding in a church, but we want to have a reception elsewhere. We want to do heavy hors'dorves (dunno if that's spelled right) and probably a cash bar and dj and dance floor. Question is, where in the Rocky Mount area can I do this without it costing me an arm and a leg? I'd prefer a place that would let me choose my own caterer. Can anyone help?!?!?

We've been on the subject of marriage, and we love each other very much! We're going to go to the jewelry store (Kay's) to look at rings in a couple weeks. She told me she doesnt care about the size or price, she's just happy knowing I love her.

What I want to know is, what's a good rule of thumb when it comes to buying the ring? 1 or 2 months wages? I make around $2800/month, but if that's how much I plan on spending, does that just cover the engagement ring, or is that the total for the bridal set? I'd like to have a budget in mind when i'm looking at the rings.

Like i said before, she would be happy with a ring from a cracker jack box, as long as it's from me. And that's why she deserves a ring 10000 times better!

My Maid of Honor hasn't mentioned throwing me a bridal shower (my wedding is two months away), but a good friend of my mom's asked me yesterday if she could throw a shower for me at the resturaunt she owns. She asked me to get a list of people I would like her to invite if I want her to do this for me. Would it be rude to ask my Maid of Honor what she thinks of my mom's friend throwing me a shower to make sure I'm not messing up any of her plans? I don't know exactly what to say to her.

I won't be doing a dance with my father when i get married and we are trying to have everything roughly planned out ahead of time so we aren't going crazy right before hand. I will be escorted by one of my uncles. One is my godfather and the other married to my aunt about 8 yrs ago but kindda took the role of father after my dad left. I'm having a very hard time with song selection because i'd want it to reflect the relationships i have with them. any ideas?
