My mother is finally getting married!!! The only problem is, I am the maid of honor and I don't have the slightest idea for a bridal shower. It would be a lot easier if my mom hadn't lived on her own for 6 years. I've done research but all the bridal themes include gifts that a newly wed might need. My mother lives in a house that is fully equiped with everything. So themes such as "Around the Clock" and "Room of the House" would not work. She doesn't want to receive gifts that she is going to end up having to sell on eBay. My Mother is also a little conventional so the theme "Naughty and Nice" wouldn't work as well.... PLEASE HELP and TRY TO BE SPECIFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE keep in mind that her house needs nothing!!! No cooking ware, gardening tools, patio furniture.....The house can not get any fuller than what it already is!!!

A vacation theme!

Instead of the "normal gifts"...ask for items that they could use on their vacation!

Maybe have a funding for them:
"Let's all help them enjoy their time!" theme.

Ask that people think of items they could use: Money (of course), Maps, Hotels, Fun Stops on the way, Maybe someone buy Dinner for them at their favorite restaurant's while they were there, Suitcases, Carry-on bags, the list can go on!

Then not only are they using the items, but they are enjoying them....without having to figure out where to place them, or how much to charge for shipping...lol.

you could go for "in love at last" theme, where everyone either gives money/checks or gift cards to resturants or for the spa. Make it clear on the invitations that the bride to be is fully loaded already in the house departmant. They will caught the drift and realize that money would be the best way to go. And you could comment about pampering the bride is always a nice guester.

im getting married for the first time and my shower theme was Cinderella and princesses. I didnt want anything nasty and perverted cause my mom would be there, so my maid of honor and bridesmaids did a pamper party for all the women that were there. we all got our hair and makeup and nails done. sounds little girlish but it was fun, especially for the older women that were there. instead of the conventional gifts someone would bring to a shower, ask for donations to be made to your moms favorite charity.

Does she like gardening? Gardening showers are fun for the right person. People bring seeds, gardening tools, etc.
If she has a new hobby, one for which she does not yet have the equipment, you could build a shower around that. I have also heard of wine showers, where people bring wine or wine-related gifts. You'll think of something.

A popular bridal shower theme is "Pampering the Bride". The ladies get together and shower the bride with gifts meant to help her relax and unwind before the biggest day of her life. When planning a pampering shower, the invitation should instruct the guests to bring items suited to the purpose, such as bath products, gift certificates to a spa or salon, and yoga lessons. One idea is to have the shower at a spa or salon. There are plenty of places that specialize in hosting showers. What is more enjoyable than to spend a day at a spa with a group of your best girls?

Les Amis Du Vin Shower
Pronounced: layz zam mee doo van, this shower literally translates, "The Friends of Wine." And you don't have to be a connoisseur of the grape to enjoy a good year. Ask your guests to bring two selections of wine -- one to enjoy at the party, and one to add to the collection you're quickly establishing for the happy couple.

Think of your Les Amis Du Vin Shower as an intimate, elegant wine tasting for good friends. Select a timeless invitation, evocative of an elegant, refined mood. If you decide to hold your soirée at home, serve a fresh fruit plate complete with pears, grapes, melons, and all her favorites. Set out boards of chèvre, Camembert, Jarlsberg and other delicious cheeses, accompanied by crostini, focaccia, and other rustic breads. If you like, try your hand at a savory cheesecake -- the dessert you eat as an entrée. For a quick and easy delicacy, bake a wheel of Brie. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a sumptuous afternoon with good friends.

Chocolate Party
What girl doesn't love chocolate? If the bride or groom is a chocophile, indulge them and your guests with a chocolate-themed bridal shower.

Invitations Look for a chocolate-themed invitation, or a simple chocolate brown invite like this one.

Activity A chocolate tasting is ideal – get an assortment of chocolates, arrange them prettily on plates, and instruct guests to taste them from mildest to strongest and darkest. Make worksheets with the names of each chocolate they'll be trying, and room for them to make notes about what they did or didn't like about it. Another alternative is to create a menu that uses chocolate in different courses –such as chicken mole, or salad with cocoa nibs in it. Or, simply have a potluck chocolate dessert party.

Gifts Ask guests to give gifts of tools for baking or candy making. Or you can all pitch in to give a subscription to a chocolate of the month club.

hmmm... what about a spa theme? have everyone get gifts that she can pamper herself with? like body washes, lotions, bubble bath, candles, ect? that could be really fun. ive heard of spa parties where a demonstrator would come into your home and give demos on different spa items. your mom could make a wish list of what she might like and the guests could buy her something from that. since shes older and doesnt need things for the home, she might want something to indulge herself with.

So have a bridal luncheon. Make it elegant and formal. Instead of giving gifts how about a monetary contribution to her honeymoon or charity of choice
