Weddings - November 2006

My fiance and I are thinking of doing both a DJ and/or possibly a pianist for our wedding reception. Does anyone know of any good pianists or two man bands (preferably jazz or classical) in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area?

I know wearing black to a wedding isn't quite the taboo that it once was, but some people still think it isn't right.

My MIL was shocked by a friend of hers, who wore black to a wedding. "I can't believe she wore black to her own son's wedding!! You just don't do that!!" Then, less than a year later, my MIL ended up wearing black to a different wedding (not mine, thankfully). This wedding in particular was one that most of our family thought was a bad idea. Do you think she was trying to make a subtle point or did she just innocently have a change of heart regarding the proper etiquette of wedding attire? I'm thinking it was the former...

I use to see this guy when i was extremly young we lived in the same neighbourhood & were born in the same area. We had lost contact until a few months ago it want be more than two months age. This week he had said that he had wanted to get married & be engaged by the end of next year. He had told all his friends about me already & had stopped chatting to all his female friends. A dear friend of mine is getting married soon. I will be getting them a gift card to Home Depot since they are fixing up their home. I would like to send something small along with the gift card. It needs to be inexpensive since the real gift is the gift card, but I still want to show that I put some time and thought into their gift. Any suggestions?

My brother has been engaged and last minute (three weeks notice) decided to get married with Family Only in London. I'm in Los Angeles. My half sister feels its important for me to go but I don't really want to drop everything and attend. He is also having a big bash in January or February, also in London, I'd rather go to.

Do I need to attend the wedding out of obligation?

I know my boyfriend is getting a ring over the internet. Today the package came, so I went to the website on the package. All the engagement rings are less than $30. It wouldn't bother me, but he spends $100's of dollars on things for him. I don't know if I should even care, but it really hurts me. I feel like he doesn't think I'm worth anything else.

I have an ex-boyfriend that I was madly in love with when we dated. However I relationship ended because he was not ready for the type of relationship I wanted at that time (1996). Anyway, we remained friends. Years later (1998), my best friend invited some relatives to move in with us. Her two cousins moved in and all was great for a while. After some time, I moved out and into another apt bldg in the same complex. Shortly after I started dating a co-worker and things progressed until I moved back home in 2000. Four months after my ex called me to advise me that he was dating my ex roommate. My ex roommate called me upset and irrate becasue she felt like he was asking my permission to date her. Anyway, they got married two years ago and had a baby two months ago. I was the wedding decorator, and the hostess for the baby shower (at her request). She continue to be suspicious of our friendhsip, with no reason for concern. Why does she continue to invite me into her life events?

My sister was in amy wedding party and she did not have me a gift or at least a card. It's been 2 months since the wedding. She is the only one who we didn't receive anything from. Should I send her a thank you note for coming to the wedding with her husband and kids or should I not because I already have her a gift and thank you at the rehearsal dinner. I have to say I am very hurt by this.

Myself and my fiance are both 20 years old. We have been together for 3 years and have been living together for 2, however we have known each other for many many years. I am a university student and have completed 3 years of my 5.5 year program and I would like to wait until I graduate to get married so we can be more financially stable. Do you think it is ok to wait 3 years to get married? We are already living common law.

A friend of mine is getting married at atlantis in april. A bunch of us want to stay at comfort suites because it is cheaper and it offers access to the atlantis resort. The people who are getting married are telling us that the resort told them that in order to attend their wedding we have to stay at the resort. Does anyone know if this is true?

I'm getting married in April. For people who are single friends of ours, we're inviting them individually, since our numbers are limited, and they will know lots of people anyway.

My friend, however, just informed me that she's bringing a date. Shouldn't she understand that her invite didn't say "and guest" and get the hint?

I am getting married spring of 2007. My fiance & I We found an appartment we liked. Application fee & the rent on the appartment will be taken out automatically from the account. I have a bank account which I haven't used in awhile & I have less than $100 there. Now my fiance wants 2 use that account 2 pay rent. He lives with his folks now & I live with my mom. I am a victim of Id theft & I don't feel comfortable about this whole thing. Because he is protecting his name & account info while my account is being used 4 rent. I am not sure if I will be putting my paycheck on that account. Sometime ago we agreeded to open an account together after we get married.We also agreed once I have children I would not b working.So is this a big deal? Right now he has joint account with his folks & he pays some of their bills.He told me he wants to keep everything the same. He has cellphone plans with them 2. He told me once we would get a plan 2gether but now he says we should keep our old plan.
