Family - December 2006

I want to either go to Columbia University (in New York City) or Stanford University (between San Jose and San Fransico) for college and we live in Philadelphia (in Pennsylvania - no just kidding I know you guy knew that one!). My mom is already freaking out that I am even considering Columbia and my dad kind of wants me to stay, but he wouldn't stop me, I know it. I haven't told my mom I am thinking about Stanford though, but I think she'll have a heart attack after seeing her Stanford reaction. How do I bring it up when everytime I say I want to leave just the city she gets crazy and doesn't listen? I need there support for this and I know I have my dad's but mom is basically filling out applications to Drexel, LaSalle, and Penn for me (not literally, but you jnow what I mean!).

I'm preparing for my mom's typical comments that generally make implications that my bf is a white trash loser who is overweight, didn't graduate high school, and doesn't make enough money to support me. I have the support of my brother and sister-in-law, but it's the holidays. My BF is not invited to anything, and my birthday is coming up in 5 days. How do I deal with the future onslaught of phonecalls and moronic hypocrisy?

Me and my husband,Mikesweer just got a divorce today ( Chirstmas eve 06) and we have a daughter who is 9 yr. old, Niylah and she lives with Mikesweer. Now Mike. says i can only see Niylah on Chirstmas day. she is so happy to come when i talk to her on the phone she wont stop unless i say something. She cant wait to see me and get a gift but the bad thing is i dont do Chirstmas me and Mike. never did Chirstmas because i have a law from my mother ( step nasty mother ) " Never give a gift with joy unless its pain of a death" and i dont want to give that to my DAUGHTER!! and i dont want to make her mad or heart broken i just want to see my family. What should i do?

His daughter is in D.C. His sons are in Florida, my sister and I (his grandaughters) are in North carolina. The hospital send him to a funeral home already but they said we can't see hime because of the holiday. They have to let us see him right? We don't know what to do. Please help. Thanks.

okay!! last night i was walking home from a neighbors where i was babysitting..and it was really dark..i had my cell of course..but then there was a black car with tinted windows that was sitting there and it wasnt running..and then when i got about 2ft in frotn of it....it turned on and started going really slow and folliwing me...then it turned its light on..so i walked into my neighbors grage acxting like i lived there...then that car stopped as it went around the corner and sat there... when i walked out of the grage..the car stared backing up twoards me...so i darted 2 my house and ran inside..while i was running i was crying because i have never had a car follow me like that! i was ssssssoooooooo scared..then my mom asked what took me so long and i told her what happend and all she said was "dont go outside" so i ran up 2 my room and cried....then after she heard me throw somthing she came in and talked 2 me..but thats only after she knew how scared i was out there!im ok now!!!!!

So my parents are getting a divorce, and I'm 16 almost 17. I don't want to live with my dad anymore because he's the one that's ruining everything and I hate him (for reasons I'm not going to say) My mom said that she's going to get me out of here, but my dad might fight that she won't get custody. Since I'm 16, will I be able to choose, since I'm old enough to do it myself? Or will they think I'm a minor and I won't be able to choose?

Every year, Our family celebrates Christmas on Christmas Eve (Today!!!) My aunt is very rude and her son from a previous relationship is a complete spoiled brat! My cousin and I are both 12 and we can both no longer deal with her crap. She lies and blames everything that happens to my cousin. She always says. "It was only an accident. He's only five!" To both of us, 5 is old enough to be able to sit in the corner for 5 min. (1 minute per year) One day, during Thanksgiving, my cousin's stepmom was sitting in the kitchen washing dishes. I was keeping a close eye on her, and her not noticing. Her son came walking in to play tractors with my 3 year old brother. when he did that, he walked past my cousin and my aunt said "Honey, look at me.". Her son said, "What, mom!" As he turned around he cloncked my cousin on the head. She said, "oh nevermind." And this pissed both me and my cousin off so bad! what should I do!? The kids needs a time out. The mom needs one too! No rude comments please!

Aren't really close. I mean, shes a great mom, like, she is nice, takes care of me, and everything, and is never abusive, and I am an okay kid, I don't do drugs, I'm good in school....well and we barely ever fight.....
Well we aren't close for some reason. I don't feel comfortable with her mosta the time...even though I am 12, and I have been with her for 12 years....(my whole life)
I don't get why we aren't close.
Does anyone have any suggestions why we might not be such a mother/daughter pair?

Ok I am a 22yr old college student that still lives with her parents and doesn't drive yet(but will learn to drive at the college this spring yay!)

Anyway since I've been working sweat and stress throughout my semester, and Christmas break for me started the 13th. I was so tired so all I did was be lazy and sit around and do nothing but take care of my neice. When my mom tells me to do dishes or towels I occasionally do them. Then today my dad is being insensitive taking it out on my neice and me(whenever he has to do bookwork) he wouldn't let me eat just because I'm constipated and have lots of gas.

They both said that I can't go back to school because I said this is my vacation I need to relax.

So what is your suggestion? I'm tired of this harassment(It was worse my whole life) so should I move out get a place of my own and maybe move far away to pursue my dreams?

ok my brother is an absolute pig. i mean, he's so overweight, and when my friends give me candy, and i hide them in my room so he won't eat them, he still goes into my room and looks for it. the next day, the candy is gone because of him. and my parents are yelling at ME for not hiding the candy in a proper place, but they never yell at my brother even though he's so overweight. someone should teach him a lesson. and my parents won't, so what should i do? he eats everything that belongs to me!!

My son is 14 and although he is a good lad - doesn't cause any trouble and is polite to others doing ok at school. He is so moody at home spends lots of time in his room on his computer or he is out with friends.
He doesn't seem bothered about his family at all and never wants to help out or join in anything. Is this normal? Will it ever get better?

I sent out Christmas cards this year with my two little boys (1,4yrs) wearing bunny outfits similar to the ones Ralphie is forced to wear on our family favorite movie- A Christmas Story. The picture was hilarous... We hadn't had a chance to get our "traditional" pictures done yet, so I sent the funny one with our Christmas letter, and plan to use the "traditional" picture to hand them out with in the cards with gifts on Christmas. My Mother-in-law and family declared that it was not funny, not cute, and they did not like it. I was hacked- it was a joke and even if they didn't like it, they didn't have to be rude. She has never really liked me since my hubby and I dated and broke-up in High School. She told me I cakuse her to waste $30,000 on her son's (my husband now) first year of college becuse he didn't do well and she blames me breaking up with him as the cause! How would you deal with the situation
