Me and my husband,Mikesweer just got a divorce today ( Chirstmas eve 06) and we have a daughter who is 9 yr. old, Niylah and she lives with Mikesweer. Now Mike. says i can only see Niylah on Chirstmas day. she is so happy to come when i talk to her on the phone she wont stop unless i say something. She cant wait to see me and get a gift but the bad thing is i dont do Chirstmas me and Mike. never did Chirstmas because i have a law from my mother ( step nasty mother ) " Never give a gift with joy unless its pain of a death" and i dont want to give that to my DAUGHTER!! and i dont want to make her mad or heart broken i just want to see my family. What should i do?

First you should grow up and quit lying. It's Sunday---Court is closed--no way you got your divorce 'final' today.

Your daughter's 9--if she doesn't know by now that you don't do Christmas then she's as retarded as you.

Mom's don't make 'laws', the government does. Get a life. You're a sad freak.

Take 7 dollars and invest in a copy of Elements of Style. At least then your lies can be grammatically correct!

I think you are being selfish. Empathize with your daughter, see it through her eyes, not yours. Realize that when you are giving her a gift, the joy she feels to see you will be multiplied. Know that by not receiving a gift she may become depressed; that here morning of the divorce may be multiplied. Do not give it to her with a thought in mind that an obviously abusive person hammered into your mind. If you can not overcome the though, do not give her the present in joy, just know that her knowing that you thought of her will bring her joy. She is a child of divorce and holidays are very tough, without a mother showing consideration for her feelings she may grow to resent you.

Im sorry... that must be just aweful getting a divorce on Christmas Eve... :( where is the love? Well i wouldn't listen to a step mom cause on the real there not your mom.!! Do what you think is best for your daughter... dont think about what your step mom says........cause if she loves you and cares she will understand and forgive your decision that you made.......even though it was the opposite of what she wanted......... Good Luck!! and IM REALLY SORRY THAT THINGS HAD TO HAPPEN THE WAY THEY DID1!

Let's see now, you were old enough to get married and have a child but not old enough to live your own life according to YOUR rules. You still follow what your step mother's rules. Either get her a gift or don't give her a gift but don't blame your step mother's rules. Blame yourself for not having the backbone to go against what she has said and give your daughter a gift.

Start your own tradition and give your daughter a bright and happier life. If it's Christmas with gifts and other fun things - by all means, do it.

You know what makes you and your daughter happy.
