I sent out Christmas cards this year with my two little boys (1,4yrs) wearing bunny outfits similar to the ones Ralphie is forced to wear on our family favorite movie- A Christmas Story. The picture was hilarous... We hadn't had a chance to get our "traditional" pictures done yet, so I sent the funny one with our Christmas letter, and plan to use the "traditional" picture to hand them out with in the cards with gifts on Christmas. My Mother-in-law and family declared that it was not funny, not cute, and they did not like it. I was hacked- it was a joke and even if they didn't like it, they didn't have to be rude. She has never really liked me since my hubby and I dated and broke-up in High School. She told me I cakuse her to waste $30,000 on her son's (my husband now) first year of college becuse he didn't do well and she blames me breaking up with him as the cause! How would you deal with the situation

Deal with it, because you love your husband. It is not your fault that he did not do well in school, he could have put himself into his work instead of pining over you. Also, you can send out whatever you want, it is your card, just know to give her that traditional one form now on.

That woman is determined to hate you and there is no way that YOU can make her change her ways, only she can choose to. But you shouldnt take what she says to heart. Laugh about it, I love saying things that I know is funny to people who have no sense of humor....their reaction is priceless.
P.S and even if you did do traditional pictures Im sure (if she's anything like my sister's in-laws) she would have found something wrong with that too.

What I would do is NOT what most should do.

I would tell her to go get F'ed. I would say we thought it was funny, everyone else thought it was funny and she was the ONLY one who complained.

I have no problem telling family off. I'm not trying to impress anyone, and I certainly don't care what anyone thinks. My husband doesn't seem to care, and he is the only one that matters to me.

sounds like a cute picture and as for your mother in law and her family ... don't let her get to you ... she's protective over her little boy (just like you will when someone breaks their hearts) ... she needs to come to terms with her issues about you and there is nothing you can do about it ... maybe you & your family should skip christmas with them until she unthaws.

just tell them that by doing the family picture you wanted to do a fun thing. and not to annoy or disturb someone..if they can't understand they must be jealous..try to have a talk to your mother-in-law and tell her what's your opinion on her...

Personally, for people who act like that, I just have nothing to do with them. I'm so non-confrontational that I just can't handle being around negative energy like that.

Tell her to kick rocks, who cares what she thinks?
