My mom is turning 53 this year. She doesn't like spas, manicures, etc. I don't want to get her any gift cards and I want ideas other than, "taker her out to dinner or spend the day with her." HELP! Any suggestions??

You are 16 and your sister is 14. Both of you get a weekly allowance of $50. Your sister is a big spender. She always spend up her $50 and ask you to give her $ to buy things. The problem is you only have $50. If you give her part of your allowance, you will not have enough for yourself. You still give her $ because she ask for it & you don't want to say no to your own sister. So, mostly you stave yourself afterschool because you gave your $ to her. You try to talk to her but she say "If you are a good older sister, you shouldn't complain if you have to stave because of your sister. I know a lot of people that give a lot of money to their little sister. If I have a little sister, I wouldn't mind unlike you." You talk to your parents & they say "if you are capable to give her $, then do so." But they don't understand that I stave because of her. Although I am capable to give her my allowance, but I stave afterschool until dinner.

My 9 yr old knows NO history, virtually no math, and last year we basically had to teach him ourselves. The school system (not just a teacher issue) has gone down a lot. Am looking for others willing to share other experiences. . Also thinking of homeschooling 3 yr old since we know how bad the scools are! Both kids are very bright, but my 9 yr old bores easily, and the school is not challenging him to stay motivated.
I'm already a stay-at-home mom and used to having to teach him now, so I doubt there'd be much adjustment family-wise.Am concerned about the social afect if we pull him out of school
I understand there are several curriculums to use, am wondering what works well....
Any advice from those who've been there? Thanks!!

We lent my married 17 year old step-daughter and her 23 year old husband over $800 to move into a fully furnished apartment and pay off their old cell phone disconnecting fees. This was back in march and they haven't paid back a penny. He gets paid from $400 - $500 a week TAKE HOME and only pay us $100 a month for their cell phone charges. A friend of mine takes care of their 7 month old but when time to pay comes there's always an excuse and they don't pay her. My step-daughter has been secretly spending all the money he and she make together and are being very irresponsible with their finances and are even bouncing checks. I know she had a tough life growing up with a greedy and incompetent mother but does this give her the right not to pay us back? We're upper middle class but have hospital bills to pay cause we don't have insurance. I asked my husband if he was going to talk to them about what they owe and he said "he does cut our lawn for us". Am I being unreasonable?

A friend of mine has asked me to take her daughter "for awhile" until she is able to get on her feet again. I have a feeling that "for a little while" is going to turn into "for good". She has two children that have already been given up for adoption and has spent the last 4 years of this little girl's life in Prison. And adivce on what to do?

my parent have been fighting for as long as I can remember. abouta year ago it got really bad and my mom wanted a seperation. but she didn't. my dad said he'd change but he's back to what he's been doing. My mom says he has a gambling problem. he goes to OTB (horse racing) alot but says he never bets alot of money. My moms argument is that since my family isn't rich and always needs loans, he should save up that money little by litttle. he calls it his hobby. is it a hobby or addiction? i feel like they're always trying to make me take sides but i don't know what to do. I see faults in both of them but the faults don't have to do with the realy problem. is it a safe hobby or does he have a gambling problem
