It has always been traditional for fires to be extinguished by putting water (where applicable) on to the object burning, such as a house, to try to limit the damage to the object. Forest fires however the problem is not trying to save the object burning but from them spreading. You need far less water to prevent an object catching alight than you do to put it out, as well as fires will burn themselves out due to lack of oxygen which is why the outside parts of the log in a fireplaces usually dont get burnt, therefore wouldn't it be better to prevent parts of the forest catching alight, similar to back burning, by spraying areas that would catch alight that are in direct line to be burnt, rather than trying to put out the parts already alight? Why havent "they" thought of it? You didnt so why should "they"? Same reason "they" didnt think of the dangers of asbestos or the space shuttle blowing up!

Bird fatalities have become an obvious downside at land-based wind farms. The bird corpses can be counted if the windfarm owner permits it. But at a marine windfarm, I imagine the dead birds would either sink or be gobbled up by aquatic scavengers, leaving no evidence.

I like the idea of green power, but I worry about unintended consequences, especially if we have no way to measure the extent of the problem.

And why?
Here are a few points to ponder:
Corn prices are nearing all time highs, it's $4.00 a bushel now. And other grain prices are on their way up.
Burning oil produces greenhouse gasses.
Plowing a field releases greenhouse gasses from the soil.
Millions of acres of land will be taken out of conservation programs and planted with grain next spring.
America produces 75% of the world's corn and approx 20% will be used for ethanol production next year, up from less than 5% 3yrs ago.
U.S. corn exports are down this year, mainly due to the higher prices. Poor countries cannot afford it anymore.
Corn is the primary feed for U.S. pork, beef, and poultry production, so their prices will be rising also. Corn accounts for roughly half of the cost to raise an animal to market size.
With increased ethanol production, everyone will be paying more for food.
With higher food prices, many more people around the world will go hungry or starve to death.

So, what is the solution?

From my understanding, our society payed a role in speeding up global warming, but didn't create global warming, so is this something we want to actually stop, or something we want to slow down. Are there negative effects longterm or shortterm to stopping global warming.
