Was reading about the code that was sent back to earth and how the extra element silicone was added leading to the theory that "their" planet was silicone based unlike our carbon base. What would be the obvious differences between our planet from "theirs"?

As anybody who hasn't been stuck in a cave knows...a part of a freshwater glacier the size of 11,000 football fields broke off days ago. This means that as scientists have been trying to tell us, we are closer to global warming. The fresh water and the salt water have different densities, so that disturbs the Earth's natural air conditioning. If we don't do something within the next 10 years, it is sure we will not be able to fix it. This could lead to an Ice Age and/or a drought that would kill millions of people who don't have the means to adjust to that change. Even small heat waves in other countries kill vast numbers of people. Global Warming is coming, how can we be ready to face it?

Isn't it obvious that if the planet is getting warmer, and our emissions are exacerbating the problem, then we should stop the emissions? The rightwingers say that we don't know if it's a natural phenomenon or not, but isn't that irrelevant? If we have the ability to save ourselves and our planet, we should do it, whether the problem is man-made or not.

I am not talking about things you did to save money, ie, if you cranked down the AC "also" to save money, that doesn't matter to me. I am only interested if you cranked it down exclusively because of environmental concerns.

And, did actions or interviews of celebrities (like Leo De Caprio's recent Y!A featured question) play any role in your change? (be honest, lol)

Thanks in advance.

hi, i am writing an essay on the harmful effects of sprawl and now must propose solutions. I understand the obvious ones would be to depopulate suburbs and increase urban density. However, does anyone have any more solutions?

Im doing a Winogradsky column for my science class. I already know how it works except i dont if the mud is still "live". The mud that i had collected* has dried for a week and half. I would like to know if it is still alive.
*I had gotten mud in the San Bernadino forest. The land around it was semi-covered with snow and it was about 50-70 ft from the lake near it. (dont know if this helps in determingin if the bacteria still alive).

Thanks ahead of time.

My sister told me that global warming could make the East Coast be under twenty feet of water in as little as one year. Is this possible/probable? I was under the assumption that nothing this bad would happen in my lifetime ( not that I want it to happen at all). I am worried!

What type of electrical outlet will electric hybrid cars need to be plugged itno to recharge the battery? Standard 110, 220 or some special one that will need to be installed? Also how many kwh will it take. Are we going to be causing more pollution with the coal and oil that is burned to create the electricity than the gas the car burns? And with the high cost of electricity will it be cost effective if you have to charge the battery all night?

In our area, the electricity is often interrupted. I would like to be able to charge a battery using bicycle power that would run some lights or perhaps run a toaster when this happens. Do you know of any websites that might assist me? (I'm probably using all the wrong words for a search. I have looked.)

I heard a claim that Oklahoma has more shoreline than any other state. Being from Michigan, I find this difficult to believe. With 4 of the 5 Great Lakes touching our borders and all the inland lakes we have, it's hard to believe that a land-locked state can make this claim.
