For most of our species' duration, over hundreds of thousands of years, human beings were relatively small in number. It hasn't always been this large, so I would guess that it would be less than ten billion.

they say we will break a population record every year because of the high population.
there have been disasters that have killed mill lions of people to lessen the population.
black plague
tsunamis
the flu pandemic that they are expecting from the bird flu
