I often see people eating a hamburger in their SUV which is adorned with Sierra Club and SPCA bumper stickers. We no longer need meat as a source of protein and most people are fully aware that animal abuse in factory farms is very common. Foods like hamburgers and hot dogs promote diabetes and obesity and are terrible for our health in general. I equate putting pepperoni on a pizza to killing an animal for fun and for taste. We also know that it takes 15lbs of grain to make 1lb of beef so we cannot use the excuse that plants also have feelings as a vegetarian diet is even less harmful for plants in general. We now know that raising cattle is terrible for the environment and is on par with automobiles as a source of pollution. So why do people eat meat and say they care about animals and the environment?

Considering the rate at which the world uses resources (including China and India, which are getting bigger by the second), global warming, the fact that the seas will be fished out in 40 years, famine, genocide, disease, and nuclear armament, how long do you think it will be before most/all of the people on earth die? That is, how long has civilisation as we know it got to live?

Assume that we're talking the same temperature (say 20 degrees) outside. Same house, thermostat set 5 degrees colder. Aren't we still talking about heating the same volume of air 2 degrees? (Assuming that the furnace kicks on when the temperature drops 2 degrees.) Whether we're talking heating from 68 to 70 or 63 to 65, it's still the same amount of heat/energy required. Where's the energy (and hence money) savings?

It seems like it does'nt tell the whole story like it doesn't bother to mention any of the glaciers growing in Norway, New Zealand and even the United States. The U.S. Forest Service reports that the Hubbard Glacier in Alaska's Tongass National Forest is advancing so rapidly, it threatens to close off a major fjord.

I have seen a lot of questions here concerning the current state of the planet and almost as many questions about what we can do. What I want to know is how much thought is being given by people toward the act of recycling. If we are as concerned for our planet as it appears in Q&A is there a reason Recycling doesn't come up more in the answer? I am looking for serious thought on this topic. And would like to have people put forth their reasons why the do or don't recycle.

Edit: I am not a student working on a homework assignment so I would appreciate your best response. Thank you.

If 2,500 scientists recently said that it's 'very likely' (a probability of 90 to 99 %) that human activity is the cause of global warming, aren't people running away from what scares them, as well as from their own responsibility, by calling it 'pseudoscience'?

The cargo, would be blast chilled to -70oc. Therefore the container (40foot) would be required to maintain that temp. Thus the main consideration would be heat loss/peneration during transportation.
Assistance on this would be much appreciated.

We see that the garbages are thrown across streets in cities. Villages do not have good drainage systems. Wastes are thrown at all places. Having a clean environment increases our health and also our mental outlook changes.
We see europe and US having neat roads, streets. Why is that we do not see such neat roads in India? What should be done to have an environment on par with these countries (US/Europe )?
