compare and contrast-
Explain how the movement of mattter through an ecosystem is different from the movement of energy through an ecosystem....

You should be able to find very nice diagrams in your textbook. But briefly, energy enters the ecosystem in the form of solar radiation which is absorbed by photosynthetic organisms and used to drive the synthesis of molecules by photosynthesis. Consumer organisms ingest those molecules and use the energy of those food molecules to do all the things that the organism does. Eventually, the energy that was initially absorbed by the photosynthetic organisms gets released as heat into the environment and is lost. Matter is continuously recycled in an ecosystem. There is a carbon cycle, a nitrogen cycle....

So, bottom line, energy passes through the ecosystem while matter cycles...
