If all buildings, roads, factories, etc were left behind - would nature simply take over? Or would crumbling oil refineries, chemical plants etc finally destroy everything? How long would it take? What would be left?

I live in Los Angeles and air pollution here is really bad. Currently I live near the free way so the quality of air is bad as it could be. I want to move to high elevation on the top of the hill. It feels like the air is cooler and crisper up there. My questions: Is there less smog as you move up elevation?? Is air quality better in high elevation even in the smack of LA? (ie: up in hollywood hills or diamond bar area)

I often walk back from the gym at night and to get back to my town I go along this road which is surrounded by thick woods, fields, marshes and rivers/streams. I often notice a different smell in the air that is not present during the daytime. Its kinda fresh smelling and I find it very relaxing after an intense training session. What causes this smell? And what is it that causes it to be present in the night and not during the day?

It would turn a certain way and looked like it was glowing in the dark. It also appeared to have 3 long legs on either side. It was tall and resembled a leaf. We've looked everywhere on the web and haven't found anything. Let us know if you know what it could be or where we should look. We're sorta curious because it was on the side of our house.

For those of you who are going to say yes, listen to this. Sharks have been around for about 400 million years, how could sharks have adapted to eat humans if we didn't exist that long ago? Further more, they are sea creatures and we are land creatures, how could sea creatures evolve to eat land creatures? And finally when ever we fish, swim, surf, etc. we're invading their territory, it's their turf, not ours.
