Of course, the leading CO2 emitter is the US. That didn't surprise me. But Australia as number two in the world? That's what the Union of Concerned Scientists are saying:
http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/science/each-countrys-share-of-co2-emissions.html

What's going on here? Am I missing something? According to Wikipedia, the current population of Australia is 20.6 million.

Please, to my Aussie friends, I mean no offense.

Personally, I like the look of wind turbines. Maybe it's my partial Dutch heritage coming through. But, I am concerned about reports saying it kills migratory birds. How serious is this drawback?

And then find out we were wrong about global warming, than to do nothing and find out we were WRONG about global warming? Yes, taking action to prevent and reverse global warming will be expensive, but the risk of being wrong about the warming effects is worth taking, isn't it? If warming is not happening, and we take action, then the world will still be a healthier, better place, wouldn't it?

In what ways would rationing help or hinder us? I for one, would miss all my hours on the computer/laptop etc as I do all my work and everything else on it, but would it really hurt me if I was rationed on the amount of energy I was allowed to use? I don't think so. Let me know what you think of rationing and could you self ration without being told you had to do it?

Would your car breaks down to be convinced that you need an oil change?
Then why do you wait for cities to be drowned to believe that there is global warming?

Serious discussion here.

How feasible is the idea of communities, towns, even whole cities being powered by solar energy? At the most, how about these communities being fractionally powered by solar energy; 40% Solar/ 60% Fossil fuels?

We're not getting all George Jetson, here. We have practical means by which to make something like this happen. My research has lead me to believe the problem comes in with the initial setup.

If this is so, what would it take to materialize the dollars? Should each State solicit a 'solar energy' tax; money dedicated to fund R&D solutions for citizens? Is it something that can be solicited to big business in exchange for free plugins; Staples invests in a solar power grid in Downtown Los Angeles... and calls it 'The Staples Power Center".

I read today that South Africa is starting up its first wind farm
( http://www.yzerfontein.info/nearby_towns/Darling/News/Darling_news/2006_08_02_windfarm_cape_town_contract.htm )

To what extent are wind farms a threat to birds? Are there any other disadvantages to wind farms ?

Is there a better source of energy?

the possible effects of global warming in the future? My speech is to be persuasive, as I am to try and convince people that global warming is a problem and that there are small things that all individuals can do to prevent the problem from worsening. The only problem I am having is finding something small enough and cost effective enough to bring to class with me, so I can provide an example? Any suggestions?
