Personally, I like the look of wind turbines. Maybe it's my partial Dutch heritage coming through. But, I am concerned about reports saying it kills migratory birds. How serious is this drawback?

wind power is not the main cause of death of birds so i think we all can live whit that . did u knew that a single bird can bring an airplane down if it crashes in a turbine ??? . also believe it or not killing birds is not always bad for them for example it is know that there is too many ducks and that the only solution to prevent their extinction because of their overpopulation is to allow more duck hunters to hunt , in this case we are the balance that they need . do not forget the air power is one of the cleanest ways to produce electricity therefor all other ways excluding solar power do kill way more birds because they contaminate our environment .

From what I've seen, the argument is largely an egotistical power play by wildlife biologists in government bureaus.
Wind power generators have addressed this problem by building huge, slow moving turbines. They have conducted bird surveys as part of their permission to build on public lands.
I'm not a bird expert, but I'm thinking the numbers would show less killed by windmills than are killed by cars, even if we had windmills all over the world. Incidentally, wind power companies interested in developing commercial power sources have been studying and have identified the best sites to develop all over the globe, with great detail and refinement in the US. It is estimated that if those identified best sites are used, enough electrical energy could be generated to meet 7 times the present global demand.
If we do not stop burning fossil fuels, the extinction of many species of migratory birds is
probable. In fact the extinction of man has an uncomfortably high probability. So, you tell me, would it be worth it to develop wind power? Isn't the risk to migratory birds acceptable when compared to a far greater risk to migratory birds?

Wind turbines do kill birds, but the mortality is low compared to glass windows, agriculture, automobiles and from oil and gas production. At high estimates individual wind turbines kill less then one bird per year. Depending on the type of turbine and the area the turbine is in estimates can be much lower.

Wind turbines DO kill birds! I am a biologist who has done many surveys on wind farms to assess the affect they have on birds, and believe me...they do take a number of birds out. It is usually raptors that are most affected, their large size makes it harder for them to maneuver around the spinning blades. Also, if they are chasing prey...they are concentrating on the smaller bird or animal they are chasing...they are not thinking...."Gee I wonder if there are any large spinning blades around that are going to chop my head off". Anyway, I also found out that the amount of energy that wind farms produce is VERY small! Every form of energy generation has inherent environmental costs, but the number of birds killed by these turbines is too high to justify the small amount of power created.

Hmmm, let's see...Completely clean energy or migratory birds. Unless birds can somehow be harnessed to my car and pull it at speeds up to 70 mph then I'll take the wind turbines please!

The birds will figure it out sooner or later. The Earth (and its creatures) are smarter than everyone gives them credit for. Look at us, we have a new technology, and people die using it until the design is perfected or the public becomes accustomed to using it.

Sounds like evolution in action to me.... if the birds are stupid enough to fly into a giant spinning blade then maybe they should die off and make room for some smarter birds.

few birds it kills...
