the possible effects of global warming in the future? My speech is to be persuasive, as I am to try and convince people that global warming is a problem and that there are small things that all individuals can do to prevent the problem from worsening. The only problem I am having is finding something small enough and cost effective enough to bring to class with me, so I can provide an example? Any suggestions?

find a picture of a big rocket engine and cut and paste it onto an image of the earth, so that you can show the earth being moved away from the sun. After all, the sun is what is causing the current temporary warming spell.

I know there is a lot of fashionable science supporting the fiction of global warming, but the datacollected by serious climatologists suggests otherwise.

The earth was warmer in the 1300's than today, where cars and pollution responsible for that warming too? There was more carbon in the athmosphere during the last ice age than now too, so it is an untruth that carbon is causing the warming.

The sun IS releasing more energy today than a few years ago, Mars is warming up. I am not saying that the earth is not warming, I am saying that mankind has sod-all to do with it and mankind cannot stop it.

Just turn the thermostat in the classroom up to 90 degrees, duh! Seriously though, I know you are trying to push the cause of 'global warming', but nobody knows if it is human caused yet (and if they tell you otherwise they are a liar). Any visual aids you bring in will only further the sensationalist movement behind global warming. Glaciers melting, polar bears on shrinking ice blocks, a woman sweating in the heat.....these are all emotionally driven arguments that prey on our FEAR OF CHANGE. Well guess what, the Earth's climate is by definition unstable, so it always has to be moving from one direction to the other. Does the natural fluctuation of temperatures have to be a crisis?!?

And by the way,
"The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is a international association of more than 140 counties and their top leading scientists."

This is a POLITICAL committee full of members who had already spoken out on the 'dangers of global warming'. They were hand-picked because of their previous published beliefs on the subject. It is not a scientific think-tank in the slightest.

Some suggestions are:

The percentage of the worlds Energy consumed by country
The percentage of the worlds Oil consumed by country (i.e. 25% USA)
The amount of energy consumed per person by country
The average efficiency of a vehicle built in the USA compared to the rest of the world
The average consumption of energy per household...

And then a nice big picture of flooded New Orleans.

I cant think of anything small you could take to class. I read a book recently (The End Of Oil) which performed a calculation of the amount of money that each gallon of gasoline burnt would cost in it's effects of global warming. The cost will works out at around five dollars a gallon, maybe you could use that message.

Good luck, it is a difficult subject to approach on anything but a macro scale.
