we have council recycling sites where we can take things
and we have a great website called freecycle.com where we offer anything we don't want and ask for anything we do...............all sorts of things get offered from furniture, books push chairs cookers. corks. pretty well everything finds a use.

I live in the south-east & come under Tondbridge & Malling Borough Council. I find it pretty discusting that when you move into a new area that the council dont send you any recycling bins or boxes at all,not automatically anyway, you have to request them! You have a rubbish wheely bin that comes with the property, but surely that just encourages the lazy recycling population that we live in to be even more lazy.Im not saying that Im in the know, but I could imagine that if we had the right amount of people recycling the council would have to meet that demand & probally quadrupal their budget for recycling, something that probally wont happen.
I strongly feel that people should write to their councillor & demand better sevices with the taxes we pay, after all, thats their job. I really think we should take a few lessons off our European neighbours & recycle a hell of a lot more & get green at the same time. Here endest my rant..thx for reading..:-))
And the answer the Question:
Newspapers
magazines
Tin
Glass.....thats it & I live in the 5miles out of town, no good if you dont have a car!

In Southwark, London:
- paper and card
- tin cans
- glass (only bottles, not sheet glass)
- old furniture and domestic appliances, if you warn the council that you're putting it out.
Not plastic, which is a pity because I suppose millions of food packets, plastic bottles etc. just go to landfill sites..
You can recycle glasses at the local opticians.
There's also a scheme for recycling mobile phones for use by the homebound as alarms.

The council around here haven't actually provided us with any, we have the regular bins that get done evry week, but as for recycling theres nothing. We take it all to the place ourselves though, so its not all that bad.

Here (Sheffield) it's just paper and card - you can recycle your own stuff at the tip or supermarket, but I think the council could do more.
