Primary & Secondary Education - February 2007

Public Safety. A class we take in high school. What exactly do you do in there. Please let me know before I put it on my schedule.

Okay so im SUPPOSED to be a Junior in high school but during the summer my parents thought of the bright idea to make me graduate early. They thought it was pointl;ess to waste 4 years in high school, and plus if you graduate early you get a $1000 scholarship. A few months ago I mentioned that I don't want to graduate early anymore and they were just like "nope, that's not an option." I mean I know it shouoldn't a big deal but I want a REAL senior year, since it would be the last seeing all my friends and the people i have grown up with! I almost want to fail all my classes so that I'll have to go a senior year but my parents already said If i did that they would transfer me to another school. Well it's about 3 motnhs from when I am supposed to graduate but once again I feel like this is a mistake. You only get one high school life, so why am I rushing it? Help!!

Should I take public speaking or debate next year?
my goal is to be more comfortable giving speeches and talking in large groups in general.......any advice is appreciated! pros/cons are good too. If it helps, if you're in the debate class you're automatically on the team

One of my grandfathers saw me doing my homework before and said that he used to use a slide ruler. Before I could ask him for more details he had to leave because my grandma was calling him to go to their car. It has to do with math I think because I was working a math problem when he made the comment.

I'm a high school student right now (10th grade) and i've really been wondering why they teach us so much useless crap that u will never use for life. Especially in Math and Biology. My school doesnt even give u a choice of courses to take. I think it's bs and so does my dad. Any thoughts or logic on this??? Thanx.

Hi,

I was wondering whether the title of "Mrs" in schools in England was a definite sign of whether the teacher were married or not?
I mean with "Mr", it can go either way. But I was wondering whether a "Mrs Jones", for example could actually be a "Miss Jones" outside of school.

My daughter has a difficult time pronouncing the "th" and "sh" letter combinations. Her "th" words come out sounding like "f" words, for example she says "free" instead of "three", "fink" instead of "think." For her "sh" words they just come out sounding like "s" words, "shout" sounds like "sout." This is starting to hurt her when it comes to math, at least for the "th" sounds because when she says her thirties, it sounds like her forties. So when she counts or adds money for school-work, she will sometimes entirely skip her forties because when she says her thirties, she can hear that it's coming out like the forties, and this is confusing her. So she's aware that her thirties are coming out with a beginning "f" sound instead of "th" but she isn't able to fix it. Does anyone know of any exercises or work we can do at home to help her learn to say her "th" and "sh" combinations?
