I can remember being in 3rd grade and the teacher used the March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb theme. She had a lion with some clouds and wind blowing above it, and on the other side she had a lamb standing in a field with flowers starting to bud. That's the only bulletin board I remember from school, and I'm 36 now. Not only was it a cute bulletin board, but we got to learn what that saying about March meant.

well, since you are not going the St. Pat's route, and don't want spring flowers... March is the "in like a lamb/lion, out like a lion/lamb" month so lions & lambs? or stuff to do with wintery mix storms? weather related items (like maps/radar screens & the like)? daylight savings starts on March 11th. Benito Juarez' birthday is 21st (the day spring begins, and the Vernal Equinox - so maybe space stuff or pictures of stonehenge?)... the Jewish holiday of Purim is the first weekend of March (actually begins 3/1 & goes through 3/5) and that is the pre-cursor of Mardi Gras and where the saying "the whole Megillah" comes from...

if you don't want to do green (for St. Patrick's Day) and don't want to put spring decorations up. I would do something generic, like decorations with school supplies (pencil's notebooks, etc.) and little students. Other than that, there's not anything big for march other than St. Patty =)
