My daughter is in 6th grade and is failing math. We sit her down and explain it to her but she doesnt seem to catch on. Do you know of any kind of help for her age group that will help teach her? I have a conference with her teacher tomorrow night but we go through this every time and they never seem to be able to offer her any kind of help.

Do you think that more students need in school suspension or out of school suspension? Me I personally think that more students need in school suspension cause many of the students who gets suspended from school don't really care much cause for them the best part about getting suspended is that they don't have to attend classes, I think that they need to support in school suspension more often.

Are charter schools the only answer? If not, what can local business, or technology, do to contribute to the welfare of these schools while local governments continue to slash their budgets?

My son has had difficulties with kindergarten this year. Academically he is fine but he was very fidgety and impulsive. We tested him through a private psychologist and he was found to have a high IQ but was diagnosed with adhd, combined type. My husband and I choose not to medicate him because his grades are high and he is obedient at home. Yet the teacher continues to complain that he plays around all day. She is sending him home with 2nd and 3rd grade math and reading homework. I am a certified high school biology teacher and feel like I could probably teach him at home without so many headaches. Yet it seems like that would be running away from the problem. He needs to learn to get along with other adults and to be more sociable. The teacher says he acts like he's "superior" to the other kids in the class and won't play with them! In our neighborhood he has plenty of buddies who come over to play. They are just a little older than him. That's what he is used to. What do I do?

I've been reading a lot of articles on what children should know before they enter Kindergarten, some written by independent writers, some from state board of education websites.
Some articles list simple accomplishments, others are exhaustive and lead me to wonder just what the teacher would be doing if the kids already knew everything the articles state they should know.

So, I want to hear from teachers only, preferably early education teachers: what would you like kids to already know before entering kindergarten, and what do you feel is your responsibility to teach them?

Thanks in advance- teaching is a wonderful, often thankless, profession! Keep up the good work.

There seems to be an on-going debate in the Philippines about which dance should be regarded as national dance. It used to be Tinikling. Now, they changed it to Carinosa. Which in your opinion should be the national Philippine dance? Tinikling or Carinosa? Or do you have any other suggestions?

I am in 8th grade and am going to high school next year. I need to take a language and my Latin teacher told me he thought I could handle another language. I am interested in Latin, French, Chinese, Greek, and German. The high school I am going to does not offer German or Greek. I have been taking Latin since the 6th grade. I want to take Chinese, French, and Latin at once through my high school years.

Does anyone think it is a bad idea to take three languages at once? And if so, why?

I know that levels of difficulty are different for people but from what you have heard, can you list all five languages in order from hardest to easiest?

If any high school teachers are answering this, is it possible to take three languages without dropping academics or unified arts?

who remembers most of what they learned in highschool?

I dont.
I love history, and when I get into discussions pertaining to something I studied for months. I can barely get my facts straight. Whats with this? Its annoying. I love learning and knowing things.
