Perhaps some feel underated and do not know how to help. PTA should get them involved without overwhelming them. Others sadly do not give two hoots about anything at all. Sad nut some kids I'm sure would like to see parents taking an active part but some parents do go over the top.

The correct spelling is "clique." And, if my experience is any guide (and I've dealt with a number of PTA's) that's typical.

The PTA concept was (decades ago) originally about working to improve education. Today, it is usuallly nothing more than a social club--and usually a clique that excludes most of the parents.

Given the enormous problems in education today--and the serious issues confronting parents--you might get more of a response if you tried focusing on EDUCATION--instead of asking people to waste their time helping you party.

The PTA in my kids school is a clique. I am not from here, I did not grow up here and i try and get involved in activities for the school, but in reality I am just not accepted, so I gave up.

The school playground politics is harder to reconcile than the Middle East. Attach yourself to the biggest clique and be prepared to be stabbed in the back by all others. Bear in mind that everyone hates each other, but at least it's in a good cause.

People have jobs and lives outside of their kid's school. If I were going to get involved, I'd run for school board, not join the PTA.

Too freakin' lazy and too wrapped up in their own quest to keep up with the Joneses to bother making life better for their children.
