The best way to find out what first year teachers (pay doesn't usually differ between elementary and secondary levels) make in your area would be to visit the county and/or district websites for public schools in your area. I know that the counties in my area have information on their websites pertaining to teacher pay.

I love these questions. It just shows that some Americans believe the world consists of USA only.
Well, here in North Cyprus elementary teachers get around 1,100 US dollars a month after tax, on their first year. I know you will not like my response, but you have to be specific when you ask your questions and state which country or region you are talking about.

Inner-city schools often pay more than rural schools as well. I live in a large city and the first year average here is about 25,000.

To anlarm-I limited the questions I can see to USA only...so I knew she was talking about United States.

it depends on their credential.
Maybe about master degree, or you just came out from university.. each teachers have their payment points. If your points are high, you get more paid. So basically, every teacher has different pay check depends on how many hours they work and whether they are married or not. IF they are married, i heard that the government does not take off that much taxes, but if you are, they do take off a lot.

dunno, i was debating on becoming an elementary school or a junior high school teacher.

id rather just teach math, but i like the younger kids better. much more fun and less attitude. but im not very good at all the subjects, and i am actually more shy with peers, so i wouldnt like having to do plays and htis and that. id rather just teach for a period. but i am not a fan of junior high kids =\

if i go into teaching i will probably go to junior high kids and teach math though. i love math.

In most of Canada right now you start at 30,000-32,000 (CAN$) for the first year, but in Alberta right now you can start at 34,000 (CAN$). However, in education class we were learning that if you accept teaching jobs overseas (Japan, China, Thailand, etc), you can start at about 60,000 (US$) plus they pay rent, utilities, food, etc!

All of this is based upon a basic education degree however. If you have an honours it goes up about 2-4 thousand a year. If you have a masters it goes up more than that, etc etc.
