I think they want everyone to have a general education. This is a foundation for higher learning and rids us of ignorance.
But I do agree they stretch it out. When I was in high school I took a term at an alternative high school where your classes are independent. It took me two weeks to complete a class that in normal high school takes 3-6 months. So they probably are filling it in with some of that useless crap you are talking about :)
Have you ever thought about just getting your GED and starting college, once you are 16 your school can sign a paper. You go get your GED which at most usually takes 3 months. Then you can enroll in college especially community college. I know several people who did this because they just weren't right for high school.

I do agree with you somewhat, but I alson know why they do this. The main goal of high school is to subject you to as many different fields of study as possible so when you join college you will know what you need help in and what fields you are really good at. I think that, depending on the high school you go to, this can really be helpful. So when yu suggest that they teach stuff that is not useful such as math and biology, you know that these are your two weak subjects. I just wish that in 11th and 12th grade you could choose what classes to take, because by then you have a feel for what you are good at. Then high school would not be so boring and pointless. I hope that this helps you.

biology hmmmm well , you shoould know a little on how your body works, what it needs, how to stay healthy and functions. If something is not right later on you might pick it up quicker then others by learning certain things. Excreation, bladder, lungs so on.
As in Math, lol so wrong math is all around you, vision 20 20 if less in either eye it's bad don't know number its bad, money and certain equation you need in real life. You should know how to read your taxes, know that no one is jipping you off, change at the stores, maybe things go wrong in the future for you if you become okay in math maybe you can tutor for money or even become a math teacher, if you become a science teacher you also need math, accountant also needs it. computers deal with many numbers, hmmm web page designer ask them a real one you should know enough on numbers, rules, equations and so on. Going to college another reason why both are important, you need the basics to keep going further, chemistry has alot of math, problems algebra and equations, crazy right, you might endup with someone that has some interest in the field you should know a bit. statistics, politics are also numbers, cashiers, what if machines break, you need that brain to function some what well in math, oh lets talk on machine, power and watts in numbers, what connect to what , detaching bombs in the law force, say if your not in any of those situation later you have a kid and unlike you he is pursuing something with that background say he really needs help to step up his game, you his dad will be worthless. It's needed for these reasons and soooo much more. :) i hated it but now work as an assist teacher, math is already getting harder, 6, 7 and 8th are doing temp, graph, equations, problems and algebra, if i did not go on i wouldn't be able to help them.. This world is always trying to do something better, go higher the standards for all keep going up, soon elementary 2nd and 3rd will look at algebra in time wee need to be at level or above to live in this world and have a secure place and a secure job that can not be lost.

I think this because they think that all students will graduate and go on to college. So they make every one take courses that will beneficiate those who need them to prepare for college. So basically they are meant to "prepare you for college." In reality they only help you get accepted and once you are in college you realize you didn't need them at all but you were forced into them because of those few overachievers in high school that wanted all the "best courses so that they could succed in college and in real life." My advice is to just pass them in order to graduate and be done with it and move on to the more interesting things in life. Don't worry about grades if the class is boring to you just get it overwith.

That really sucks when I was in high school which wasnt that long ago lol ( 4 years they implemented new curriculum that had three different levels of learning. You had acedemic which was meant for the kids that planned to go to university, Apllied which was meant for kids that were going to college and Essentials which was supposed to be meant for the stupid kids.
This was for every major subject science, math, geography, english. You got to choose which level you wanted to take. Well the kids in Essentials classes learned more practical things for life like how to do your taxes, car insurance, roadtrips, credit cards, mortgage payment etc.
Also there we many elective classes that were not too educational and just enough fun.
It's too bad that your school really makes kids not want to go to school.

They do that so that you have exposure to all the different fields of study that are available so you don't seem like a philistine. Even if you don't like those courses, there are others who do. And, how would you, or others, ever find out what areas of study they enjoy if they never try it. Relax though, once you are out of high school, you will have more freedom if you go to college.

I know the feeling. Sometimes they teach you stuff not so you'll actually use it in later life, but to develop a work ethic.
If you have to learn hard topics in math, and you actually learn it, it develops you for later life to be able to grasp hard concepts in the working world.
You'll get to choose more topics as you get to your Junior and Senior years. In college, you get to choose your career.
Stay in school ,and work hard at it. It WILL pay off.
