I'm in a bit of a weird situation. I left my Canadian high school with average grades (A's and B's), got into my local uni, dropped out and worked for a year and am now in junior college with a new goal in mind. I want to go to university in the UK, specifically Oxford. I know they've got very strict entrance requirements, so right off the bat I know my high school record won't hack it. I've e-mailed Oxford before asking whether they'd consider an associate's degree from my local college as a proper credential for undergraduate admission. They told me it was fine, but I'm still a bit weary. I want to do this right, you see, and I don’t want my lack of proper qualifications to be my downfall.

That's why I'm considering doing a few AP exams/SAT II’s because the material being tested is pretty much what I'll be learning in my college courses anyway, or not?

Where do I go to register and take these exams around Vancouver, specifically? And do you guys think my plan is viable?

I live in Massachusetts.

When I was 15 I stole someone's credit card number and tried to buy a dvd online. Needless to say i was caught and now it's on my juvinile record. Credit card fraud! It sounds so bad I can barely say it out loud. It's my only flaw on my recocrd. Nothing else but this. No criminal record. My record is not sealed. I'm 20 and in college for criminal justice. Is all hope lost for getting a job in this field? Will government agencies look at this and not accept me? Should i just quit now? This has been bothering me for so long and I feel so hopeless. Can someone shed light on this? Can someone with the knoledge tell me if this will disqualify me from getting a job as a police officer (for example)?

Working in the criminal justice field is my dream and i want to follow my dream. I know it's credit card fraud but doesn't the fact that it's juvinile make any difference? I was 15 years old! Do I have a chance? With a BS from Northeastern??

Respectfully,
Mike

I have been debating this for years as I have attended two on Long Island. I think Adelphi and LIU are the best. Narrowing it down to one I find difficult though!

LOL, some people claim that the two schools I mentioned are not Ivy League schools when they clearly are. They are both private and really expensive, catering to upscale students for the most part. Academic standards are high too.

I'm 13 right now; I know, I'm tad bit young to be asking a question about college, but I'm curious. So, I'm in 8th grade and in all gifted classes along with 2 High School Honors classes (Algebra 1 and Spanish 1). I carry a 4.33 GPA and have dreams of going to a good college for journalism to have a career in the field of journalism/broadcast journalism. I also play on an eighteen and under Showcase Travel Softball Team in South Florida. I've written some poetry that's been published in the local newspaper. I'm also applying to an "artsy" high school which requires auditions. I'm auditioning for the Communications program. The point is that I want to know what I should do or continue doing in order to get into a college like Columbia or Northwestern. Please give LOTS of details.

So far about five colleges said that they wanted to hold my application until they see my semester grades. They also moved me to regular decision even though i applied early decision. Does that mean that they basically don't want me or i'm just an after thought or sloppy seconds???

I'm only a sophomore right now, but I feel that I need to know what it takes to get into prestigious colleges now as opposed to my senior year.

white male
resident of Maryland
dad went to UVA
GPA: 97.4 (our school doesn't use a 4.0 scale)
PSAT score: approx. 2000
member of soccer, basketball, and baseball teams
will apply for NHS
Class Rank: 4 (small school; I think about 350 kids/class)
***I am taking one AP class this year (US History) and our school has a curve of 1.1 for AP classes ( 88%=96.8%). I am taking the hardest classes that I can possibly take and I am planning on taking 5 AP classes during my junior year.

Obviously, at my age, I have a lot of work left to do. If I keep up my grades, do you think I will be able to get into UVA or UMD? If not, what can I do to improve my chances. If I don't have what it takes, feel free to be honest about it. Thanks!

Hey everyone, i was wondering if any current college students or past college students could help make me aware of a college that seems like a possible fit. It would be nice if the college were in Canada but if it had to be in America either in New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or Maine. Big cities nor small towns make a difference to me as long as the college is diverse and accepting.
My "stats" are
Gpa- 3.5
SAT- 2000
ACT- 30
I am the president of my schools diversity club, i have gone on a national diversity conference for 2 years, environmental club
Interests- photography, filmography, environmental conservation
I am not sure if i will be taking AP courses (can someone also answer if these are really as important as they seem)
Thankyou for taking the time to even read this question, and i am sorry if the stats and questions like these bore you, its just that for some reason i am getting extremley nervous and i am only a highschool junior.

Hi,

I'm a CSUN student and need to improve my GPA. I dropped out of school 7 years ago and left mid semester with about 4-5 fails. I'm back now and found my school offers grade replacement, meaning if I retake a class I failed they'll replace the grade with the new one up to 15 units. Is that my best bet to get my GPA up? I did some math and even if I get all a's from here out I can't up my GPA significantly with out getting rid of those fails.

Is this my only route to replace the 5 classes? Or is it hopeless? I need a 3.0 for masters program and a 2.5 for certain jobs I'm not far away but could use some advice.

Units Taken Not Toward GPA 0.000 3.000
Units Passed Toward GPA 12.000 97.000
Grade Points 33.700 261.500
Current GPA Current 2.808
(Cumulative 2.161)

I'm from the UK wanting to study in the USA. But I have just found out 1 of the universities I was looking at is apparantly a 'Community college'...What does that mean?? Will it affect the credibility of my degree when I graduate from this kind of school? It is called 'NYIT' - New York Institute of Technology

And how easy is it to transfer from one university to another once i'm in the States?

Thanks

I know that the MBA program is unfortunately unranked, but I do not have the credentials/test scores to get into a top tier school. I am trying to make the best of my situation and get into an MBA program that is AACSB accredited, within the city of San Francisco, and will give me some regional clout.

I was thinking about attending SFSU MBA program and try to do extremely well academically... then possibly transfer to Berkeley reflecting the good grades from SFSU. My undergraduate GPA is lacking, so I thought of this idea. Is this possible?

I've screwed up. I've gotten pretty awful grades so far in high school. I'm a junior now [11th grade.] My grades were mediocre for first quarter - 4 As, 2 Bs, and a D. :( I'm really trying harder, but my cumulative GPA right now is a 3.0 at the very best. I only have the remains of this year and the next one [not as important] to get my GPA into shape for college applications. I have a horribly unrealistic dream of studying English at Cambridge. My SAT scores should be fine, and I'm almost certain I can get the 5/5/4 minimal AP requirement, but I really don't know if I can cut it.

I really wish the admissions were still based on entrance exams and an interview alone. I want to go so badly.

Is there anything I can do to increase my chances? Any way to pad my GPA?

I want to know If I can get into an Ivy or equivalent school (MIT, Caltech, Stanford.) I was born and raised in Puerto Rico so I get a big break from that. My GPA is 3.96 of 4.0 (school has no honors). My max scores on the SAT were M-700 CR-680 W-580 but I want to study Engineering so the writing shouldn't matter too much. I'm in my school's math and science teams, belong to the NHS, and took the most advanced courses my school offers, some of which were made for me exclusively. Even with that though, I know it's still pretty hard to get into schools like Harvard and MIT. Do you think I can make it? If not, what can I do to help my chances?

Please help!
I'm stuck in a rut and don't know where I'm heading in life.
What kind of course would you suggest a person takes if she is interested in the following:
Music
Design
Photography
Writing
Aesthetics
Fashion
Film
...and others that are related to those.
I was in college for a year an a half, and have changed my major 3 times [Computer Science, Business Management, Development Communications] and I just don't know what kind of course I really want since I'm interested in many things.I've been out of college for almost a year now since I just don't have the motivation or any sort of goal to get me going.
Please give me some suggestions! I really need them. Preferably something that will be a combination of many of the above listed interests.
Thank you in advance.
