Please help!
I'm stuck in a rut and don't know where I'm heading in life.
What kind of course would you suggest a person takes if she is interested in the following:
Music
Design
Photography
Writing
Aesthetics
Fashion
Film
...and others that are related to those.
I was in college for a year an a half, and have changed my major 3 times [Computer Science, Business Management, Development Communications] and I just don't know what kind of course I really want since I'm interested in many things.I've been out of college for almost a year now since I just don't have the motivation or any sort of goal to get me going.
Please give me some suggestions! I really need them. Preferably something that will be a combination of many of the above listed interests.
Thank you in advance.

Jason Saint - I've been actually thinking of taking Visual Comm since it's the only course offered here that is closest to what would suit me since it's rather broad. Thank you, and good luck to you too!

hamrrfan - I took Comp Sci because it was something I was really interested in back in middle & high school, and I've had lots of experience with Computers and Web design. Only recently have I found out that it's something I'm not interested in anymore. I will take an aptitude test later on and hopefully it'll help. Thanks for the suggestions.

Fashionista - It wasn't my desire to go into college without any idea of what to take-- I was only forced into studying right away by my parents. Thank you for the suggestions, too.

Thank you to everyone else as well! I appreciate it. Hopefully I can finalize my decision by the end of this week.

Why dont you look into music business, fashion merchandising, film studies, interior design or just do something broad like communications? Maybe something like visual communication would be right for you. Im in the same boat as you right now :-\. Good luck!

Why don't you talk to the counselor at school and see what courses they suggest. Some colleges offer internships as course credit. Doing an internship at a company will give you the opportunity to talk to different people and maybe get a better idea of what type of careers you are interested in pursuing.

If your school doesn't offer real-world experience, another option would be to do temp work - it can be a great learning experience as well as give you the opportunity to work at different companies. You might try Kelly Services or Office Team - I am sure there are others.

Also, have you taken any type of career aptitude test to find out what types of careers would best suit you?

Just curious -- why are you even going to school and spending all that money if you really don't know what you want to do?

Well, I'm currently a freshman in college right now, and I am kinda in a similar predicament where I have a lot of interests, but I can't settle on one thing. For music, you could take a music appreciation or performance class if you have interest in instruments. For writing, maybe a creative writing class or some class where you can get involved in theatre. There aren't too many course in any colleges I know of that combine two or more of the interests that you have because they all have their own separate courses! You might just have to try really hard to pick 2 or 3 interests that you have and take classes for them until you figure out which one you can really see yourself doing. That's all I can suggest.

Have you had any aptitude tests? Everything that you listed seems to point to the arts. I do not understand way you took something so technical as computer science.

Would you be a candidate for an acting and theater major? Even if you do not plan to be an actor, some of your interests would be used theater or movie production

you can actually major in a few of these on their own so its more about which one are you most interested in. You should really think about what career you are actually interested in and go from there. Starting there and working back is better than letting your courses pick your future.....your future should choose your courses.

I have had several friends who have majored in graphic design and gone into several of the areas that you have listed. They are in high demand if they enjoy what they do. The are also well payed and love their jobs.

Screenwriting or something in theater. In either case, you'd be hitting on a lot of the interests in your list.
