Hi,

I'm a CSUN student and need to improve my GPA. I dropped out of school 7 years ago and left mid semester with about 4-5 fails. I'm back now and found my school offers grade replacement, meaning if I retake a class I failed they'll replace the grade with the new one up to 15 units. Is that my best bet to get my GPA up? I did some math and even if I get all a's from here out I can't up my GPA significantly with out getting rid of those fails.

Is this my only route to replace the 5 classes? Or is it hopeless? I need a 3.0 for masters program and a 2.5 for certain jobs I'm not far away but could use some advice.

Units Taken Not Toward GPA 0.000 3.000
Units Passed Toward GPA 12.000 97.000
Grade Points 33.700 261.500
Current GPA Current 2.808
(Cumulative 2.161)

#2 may be an option but is it possible to goto another school? Won't my grades factor into my cumulative GPA anywhere I go? I don't think the grass is greener on the other side.

In regards to going to another school, I am 2 semesters from graduating, 3 semesters if I have to retake 5 classes would going to another school put me further behind??

Also, I need to up my CUMULATIVE GPA not current, as that's what I guess employers are looking at.

Thanks for the great help. Much appreciated as college counselors are arses.

I would retake the five courses you can replace, and pick classes where you are fairly sure you can get As. With that and new coursework with good grades, you should be able to move up toward a 3.0, which is fine for most things including graduate school. I would put your mind to it, get it done, and move on! Good luck.

i agree with the radio star. Either retake the classes you failed and see how the new grade will affect your GPA or if its in your best interest, maybe you should go to a new school and just start out fresh. Maybe try going to a community college. Good Luck !

The only thing you can do is to retake those failing classes over, also you might want to think about taking some extra classes (try and find the easiest teacher) and try getting some A's from that.

The way I see it is that you have two options:

1) Retake every class you got a bad grade in

2) Find somewhere else to go to school.

upon transerring to another university, (which will be difficult with you GPA) they wont accept classes below a C, so you will lose credits, but you will also lose many of those Fs. Figure out your GPA without any grade below a C and that's what it would be at another university.

transfer to another college, because your old gpa wont transfer. You can start fresh
