I live in Massachusetts.

When I was 15 I stole someone's credit card number and tried to buy a dvd online. Needless to say i was caught and now it's on my juvinile record. Credit card fraud! It sounds so bad I can barely say it out loud. It's my only flaw on my recocrd. Nothing else but this. No criminal record. My record is not sealed. I'm 20 and in college for criminal justice. Is all hope lost for getting a job in this field? Will government agencies look at this and not accept me? Should i just quit now? This has been bothering me for so long and I feel so hopeless. Can someone shed light on this? Can someone with the knoledge tell me if this will disqualify me from getting a job as a police officer (for example)?

Working in the criminal justice field is my dream and i want to follow my dream. I know it's credit card fraud but doesn't the fact that it's juvinile make any difference? I was 15 years old! Do I have a chance? With a BS from Northeastern??

Respectfully,
Mike

It wont totaly bar you but it wont look good either. You could try to have it sealed but if most government agencies are like the military, sealed records are still their business and must be listed. Mainly what they will want to see is that you have grown past that, that you have matured and that it will not happen again. The main thing is that you be honest because even if you think it wont come up, it will. People are given second chances with minor stuff like that......now if it was armer robbery or murder I would tell you to look at a different major.

I have nothing to do with law enforcement, but I would bet that this will not keep you from getting a job in law enforcement. I know a few police officers and none of them are perfect. Good people, but not perfect. None of us are. Yes it's on your record, but it wasn't the start of a life of crime. You learned a lesson and never did it again. I really doubt that many background checks come up perfectly clean. And I really think that this will not keep you from getting the job you want. Best of luck!

I seriously suggest that you talk to an adviser in the criminal justice department and find out their opinion about this. I think it would be beneficial.

it could have an impression on ones determination of your profession, yet i think of you additionally can apply it to your income. i think of you may say that using this and discovering how what oyu did grow to be so incorrect that it had such an impression which you needed to persue offender justice. You have been a minor and while you're thoroughly undemanding and don't attempt to cover which you probably did this, i think of your danger is as reliable as everybody elses. reliable success hun. save trecking on your desires and targets. do no longer enable a mistake made at age 15 make you provide up. in case you desire it undesirable sufficient, you will accomplish your targets.

Depending on what state you live in, or lived in at the time, your records might become sealed at 21. You can petition the court to seal your juvenile file if your state doesn't automatically do it.

Good luck with the future.

I strongly strongly agree with hamrrfan. This is a serious question that merits you asking the real proper authorities at your school, not a bunch of strangers on this board.

Ask some of your professors. They should have more expertise than some stranger on the web whose expertise cannot be verified.
