I am now a Junior in highschool, and I'm going in to the second semester of the year. My GPA has gone from bad, to worse throughout the 3 years ive been in highschool, and now that i take time to think about it, it really makes me feel like a failure. My gpa freshman year was a 2.8 or something, sophmore was 2.4, and this year its about a 2.0. The reason my grades have fallen is due to personal matters outside of school that make me want to kill, and have almost gotten me killed. These problems are not to be explained to anyone, due to the fact that what I did was illegal, and people would look at me differently. My question is, how bad should I really feel? both my parents have been on my a$$ my whole highschool career, and even though I listened, I never quite took advantage of it. If i got a 4.0 the second semester of my junior year, would that make a significant impact for getting accepted into a somewhat decent college, or should I just do the same as I have been?

Not listing these in pro/con format, just stating facts.
-I'm about 5 quarters from my M.B.A. right now (killed some post-grad stuff while doing Bach.).
-Will cost me about 22,000 dollars, and about 15-16 months of work, to finish my M.B.A. (doing night classes, so I can work heavy part time for money).
-I can get loans that will cover the whole of that. Unsure so far if I can get any scholarships/grants or other "Free money" to offset how much that would be.
-I am already about 15K in the whole on student loans.
-My degree is in Criminal Justice, so the MBA will at least broaden my education (CJ is a one trick pony for getting jobs)
-In the long run, I do want a law degree.
-My school is not a big name school, it's a small private one. It IS accredited through a regional collective, that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. I checked to be safe.

I'll post the questions off these in an add on... running out of room here after listing details. Give me one sec.

What is the best way to know you have a good chance to get accepted into UCLA. Im from australia and we dont have any college prep courses. Also would I need to take the sats or could I just use my op score (op score is a test all australian's need to take to get into a university depending that your op is high enough)

This ACT college planning site for High School Students(www.actstudent.org/college/plancourses.html) states:

"The courses you take in high school show colleges what kind of goals you set for yourself. Are you signing up for advanced classes, honors sections, or accelerated sequences? Are you choosing electives that really stretch your mind and help you develop new abilities? Or are you doing just enough to get by?"

What does this statement mean to you? And how does this relate to graduation requirements?

Thanks in advance!!! :)

I'm planning of attending CSULA, and I've never been to that area. From what I found out from websites, it doesn't look like friendly neighborhood to live, and I'm thinking of renting an apartment. Is it safe to walk around in the evening? Any big grocery stores nearby?
If living near campus is not recommened, what's my other option besides dorms? (I won't have my car for a year or so)
Thanks

I am planning to become a dentist, vet, or optometrist (all in the medical field). My counselour said I am encouraged to take common classes/courses such as:
Anatomy and Physiology,
Computer Applications,
Intro to Health,
Intro to Business,
Accounting,
etc. because they all prepare me for these occupations in general.
I do know that these kind of occupations can be self-employed. If I want to run my own business some day (for these occupations), I should consider taking the business-type courses.
I have a question, though.
Why would I need the other skills? Please Explain...
Thank you in advance!! :)

I don't know what's going on. I know that Ph.D. history programs are competitive but am I really out of my league? I have a 3.8 from Champaign, I graduated in 3 years, I'm a James Scholar and I worked for a year as a writer for a dot com. My GRE wasn't amazing but it was pretty good (I think): Verbal 580 Quant 640 Writing 4.5. I was rejected from Champaign/UWisc/UIC/Notre Dame/University of Chicago/Northwestern and when I reapplied this year, again to Champaign (my school!). I'm starting to think I'm doing something very wrong or that my professors wrote bad recommendations. Am I really out of my league? What kind of schools should I be applying to? I'm getting really discouraged.

Is this common? I moved out last year at 20 years of age and my mom dragged me back with some schpeel about " why pay money on rent when you could be saving it up to leave the state" So i moved back in. I'm three semesters from graduation. I will be 22 when I finish and will move out of state for a masters program. I'm glad my parents still give me a roof and the opportunity to save up but I feel abnormal. I work and pay for my expenses such as food, clothes, school, and I'm out working and studying so much I'm rarely ever here but I still feel like a mooch. Anybody in this same situation? It would be nice to save up the money but it would also be nice to walk nude in my own place if you know what I mean. Should i stay one more year and be set to move securely or get a place and live my life. I think they want me to stay to be sure my future is set. My other sisters never went to school and live at home at 27. Maybe they want to ensure I wont return to burden them?

i received my acceptance packet for DePaul a few days ago and, although i'm also applying to Northwestern, i'm seriously considering going to DePaul [as a backup plan if i don't get into NU].

as a non-Catholic, i wanted to get an idea of how strict the rules are at DePaul in terms of curfews, coed dorms, ... and stuff. i currently live in Texas and i know that at HBU, students are required to take a sort of spiritual course that couples with community service or something in order to graduate. i'm wondering if DePaul is similar? [christ, i hope not.]

thanks for your help!

By college life I mean, either private school or a University like UC Davis or Berkeley. How is it different from High school? (Expectations, standards, classes, environment) especially if you live on campus or live in a dorm.

i have always been an A/B+ honor student but my first semester of college has been horrible. my parents have seperated after 30 yrs of marriage due to my dad having an affair and my mom has become very difficult to live with. this, along with a school i really do not enjoy and that lack of friends and family, my dogs are the only ones i have because all my friends are away at college, have made me very depressed. i've had a horrible lack of motivation for school and i just got my very first D as a final grade. Part of my thinks that i need to take a break from all the stress and bad stuff in my life so i can get myself together. i want to go live with my sister, who leaves in another state. but im so torn. i really dont want to go back to the school i hate and a mom i cant stand n e more. i really dont know what to do. i do plan to return to school if i take a semeser off because a degree means a lot to me. does anyone have any advice?
