I am planning to become a dentist, vet, or optometrist (all in the medical field). My counselour said I am encouraged to take common classes/courses such as:
Anatomy and Physiology,
Computer Applications,
Intro to Health,
Intro to Business,
Accounting,
etc. because they all prepare me for these occupations in general.
I do know that these kind of occupations can be self-employed. If I want to run my own business some day (for these occupations), I should consider taking the business-type courses.
I have a question, though.
Why would I need the other skills? Please Explain...
Thank you in advance!! :)

i also want to be somewhere in the med. field. i would take Anatomy and Physiology because they explain the human body and others things. Computer Applications and the others are they because in alot of med. offices, hospitals, and business use tons of computers just to put in data. i am in high school too and would like to be in a med. field but one of the best things to do is to volunteer at a hospitals and see whats it like to experience somewhat in a med. field and they would love my help everyday and at the same time you get the feel of whatit is.....ohh its wayyyyy better then reading a book at school. =) this is good for your collage ap.

I actually think the other courses will be more useful. If you are planning to apply to good colleges, which you will need to if you want to be a vet or dentist, the major thing they are usually looking for is a rigorous high school academic program. That usually means you want as many hard sciences and as much math as you can get. I'm not sure you need the intro courses or accounting.

Anatomy & Physiology would be good anyway just because you're dealing with the human body and biology in general. This is another biology class, but they teach you things that don't get taught in an ordinary biology class.

You need science and math courses. I'm not sure what business courses have to do with going into the medical field. I'm an advisor in a college and our programs require science and math.

You need them because it is critical to be a well rounded student if you plan to attend college and obtain a professional degree. All of these courses will prepare you for college and eventually for your career field.

It has been my experience that, given your career choices, you would benefit most from math, science, and fine arts courses. Your best bet is to check with the colleges/universities that you would like to attend and see what their admission requirements are and what they would suggest you take in high school.

Best of Luck.
