i have always been an A/B+ honor student but my first semester of college has been horrible. my parents have seperated after 30 yrs of marriage due to my dad having an affair and my mom has become very difficult to live with. this, along with a school i really do not enjoy and that lack of friends and family, my dogs are the only ones i have because all my friends are away at college, have made me very depressed. i've had a horrible lack of motivation for school and i just got my very first D as a final grade. Part of my thinks that i need to take a break from all the stress and bad stuff in my life so i can get myself together. i want to go live with my sister, who leaves in another state. but im so torn. i really dont want to go back to the school i hate and a mom i cant stand n e more. i really dont know what to do. i do plan to return to school if i take a semeser off because a degree means a lot to me. does anyone have any advice?

Take fewer hours next semester but don`t take a break from school. I have watched a lot of kids take a break and skip a semester and never go back to school. You have a lot of problems right now but a few semester hours of good grades will perk you up. If you can meet the challenge you are facing right now and get your degree in spite of all the bad things that have happened then surely you will turn out to be a winner. You have had your share of bad luck recently so start expecting something good to happen and then do all you can to make it happen.

You should definitely move out and leave your boyfriend, but stay in school if at all possible. Perhaps try school part time. Just take a class or two in the morning or at night and then you would have the rest of the day available to work. I knew someone who went to a four year school part time and they graduated in six years. Not bad if you ask me. People that go part time tend to graduate with less or no debt also. If you had a bad semester you should also stay in school to get your GPA back up as soon as you can.

Thank you for making me feel less alone! I just started college last semester (community college & stayed at home to save money) and it was a DISASTER. Feels like all my friends have moved on and out of my life...and trust me, I WISH my parents would get a divorce......anyways...I've really thought of taking next semester off too, and just working full time to save up and move out......but then I figured if I go to school, I can get my degree faster which is a goal I have.......so now I compromised with just going to school part time, working full time, and avoiding going home as little as possible. That's what I'd do if I were you, too...and take classes you WANT to take not ones you NEED to, then you'll enjoy school more...hopefully. life isn't always going to be easy but just remember ten years from now everything will change...just be strong for the time being.

Is it possible that you can go live with your sister and attend school at the same time? Perhaps a new state and new college would be good.

I feel for you with your parents, but you have to pull it together and keep going to school. If you stop, you may never go back. Don't worry about the D. That's normal first semmester. I had lots of them. Now I have 2 masters degrees. I will keep you in my prayers. Stay strong and stay in school.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. People say not to run away from problems but I've found taking a break and stepping away from stress empowers you to move forward. I would definitely look into staying with your sister and going to school there. It's very difficult to focus on school with so much drama all around you. Do something nice for yourself while you take a break. Think about your future. Stay focused. Everything will work out for you. Best of luck.

I feel for you man. I really do. My father had an affair when I was in junior high. His mistress got pregnant and eventually my parents divorced. The way I found out about the affair was when a cop came up and delivered the child support papers. I was devastated. I wanted to stay home sick from school due to my depression, but my mother refused to allow it. So, I just ended up going to school anyway. It was so hard, but eventually it got better. Still though, I have anger issues relating to it. In short man, its history it will always be there, but you got to try to overcome it and not let it hold you down. If you need to talk man, send me an email aceofhearts1911@yahoo.com

Try and stay in school if you can.

i "took a semester off". it's now two years later and i'm still not back in school and starting to doubt if i ever will go back.

i would almost suggest stay in it for the semester and take the summer off.

try switching schools or majors. are you living at home??? try going into the dorms to make new friends. if your starting to feel depressed and what not maybe try talking to a councler.

theres nothing wrong with taking time off school but be VERY VERY VERY VERY careful with it, it's SO HARD to go back, in more ways then one.

Take some time off only if you have the discipline to return. Getting a good job without a degree is hard these days, and it will just make your life harder.
