Higher Education (University +) - July 2007

I am an upcoming freshman at SUNY Buffalo University and I am planning to transfer to Cornell during the next fall semester of 2008. It is my dream school and I really want to attend there by trying to maintain a college GPA of atleast a 3.8. Since there is a great emphasis of consideration on recent college work during transfers I am also planning to join many clubs at my current college. My high school gpa is 3.7 + 4 APs and 6 honors + 2 clubs.
SAT scores are not considered for transfer students in Cornell.
Do you think I have a good chance? If I'm also planning to go to grad school how will I manage to pay around 45k each year for Cornell and grad school? Are loans a financial burden after you graduate? Can grants and scholarships really cover most of that amount?

I'm looking into my options and am very interested in Library science, any excess information you could give me would be great, general salary information, demand in the employment market, various ways in which the respective degrees can be applied, what areas of study this major focuses on? (outside of the obvious dewey decimal system) and any universities in california that have great programs, or that even offer the major? thanks a lot

I have a friend who is majoring in Kinesiology and I am afraid he will not make sufficient money after a long 4 years of college. It may be something to think about since he likes healthcare but wants to focus on sports medicine I think. What are his options?

I'm going to be a college freshman next year, and choosing the right place to go has been the hardest decision in my life. I have recieved a full four-year scholarship to Wellesley College, a great school. It would be an honor to attend such a college. However, I live 3,000 miles from Massachusetts, which means I will live 3,000 miles from everything I know and trust. I don't have a single family member in Mass and I don't know a single soul. Should I go to Wellesley because it is a great school, or should I go to college with my twin sister (who I am very, very close to) and stay close to home where long distance bills won't exist?

hypothetical scenario:

student is studying at possibly the best university in the country. student has been studying in said university for a while. he knows a considerable number of people and has tried everything to make very close friends (e.g. join organizations and interact more with classmates) yet has failed in establishing such relationships.

there exists another university which is not as good as this student's current school in terms of education (but is regarded as one of the top schools nonetheless), and will help the student establish closer ties with the people he is with. the student is considering transferring to this other school instead.

QUESTION: would you consider having difficulty making friends and relating to one's schoolmates a "lame" or "weak" excuse for transferring schools, esp. if you're transferring from a "better" school to a "good" school?

When do student give capitation fee? Do colleges with little profile able to garb capitaion fee? Isn't it a market force which decides the capitation fee. Education field should remain lucrative for few more years. Because ultimately some force has to activate to start fresh institutions for the growing population. Government could only make announcements.
Tell me how many new schools or colleges run by govt has been inaugrated in the year 2006. Can any one give me any material data on this. Finally if you can note that these capitation fee is some where being invested in the infrastructure of new educational institution. Why can't the government regularise the capitation fee if the amount is invested in fresh educational institution. Fix a rate which is within the reach of many forward caste. We students of forward caste can join a profession college only after being penalised economically for being born in a forward community.

I thought that the Ivy League schools were just the best most high standard schools, and considering that Stanford is one of the best, I'm surprized that it is not an Ivy League School. Is it not as good as the eight Ivy Leagues or does the "Ivy League" mean something different? Also, does wether the school is east coast or west coast matter when it comes to how good it is?

Ok, two years ago I took what I thought would be a short break from college because I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Now, I feel like I need to go back, but I'm no closer to knowing what I want to do than I was back then. I'm leaning toward majoring in Professional Writing, but every time I start to pay my tuition payment online I panic. Should I just account this as fear of going back to school and failing horribly at something I used to excel at, or take it as a sign not to go back? Just need some other opinions and assurances...
