I am currently a dental assistant taking pre-reqs for dental hygiene. In exploring all my options nursing requires less pre reqs than hygiene. I am now torn between which one I should apply for. Does anyone have personal experience from these professions. What do you love or hate about nursing or dental hygiene. Thanks

Does this mean that I've been in college for almost four years (Fall 04-January 2007 (currently attending college)? I ask this because me and my friend are arguing over this question...she says is only been two years: Fall 2004 to Fall 2005 = 1 year and Fall 2006 to 2007 = 2nd year. Who's right?

Currently, I've just been withdrawn from engineering. I had a very hard time keeping up. I've become very tired physically, and mentally. The counselor tells me that my best chances are is work for one year and apply to university again for Sept 2008, which is exactly what I plan to do now. However, when I called my parents, she was devastated and she said some terrible things to me like I've just killed all the years that I have ahead of me. It sound as though by being withdrawn from university, I've scarred myself for life.

Is this true? That I just through my entire future and every slightest dream I ever had? Because if this is true, I suppose I should just end my life right now.

Someone please enlighten me!!

I have to defend my undergraduate honors thesis in March (or April) but I have no idea what to expect. The honors office says it roughly resembles a graduate or dissertation defense but I don't know what those are like either. Any graduate students, professors, or other undergrads (who have done this) out there? What can I expect?

Here's the deal. We've only had 1 week of school. The teacher assigned us an accounting problem to be done in Excel spreadsheet. I had no problem with this because my 1st accounting class required you to do ALL your work in Excel and it had to be perfect(perfect format, formulas in the appropriate cells etc.) so since I was told that this would be expected of me in any future accounting class, I have used this format for everything. Because of these things I am being told that the work is not mine and that I copied it from the solutions manual. I asked her to tell me what parts of the spreadsheet make her assume that it wasn't my work and she said stuff like the format, and the formulas used in the cells, basically the stuff that was drilled into my head in my first class. I guess she assumes that I wouldnt know how to use Excel and that I wouldn't prepare the spreadsheet professionally because quote "other students did not present the same similarities"

Are extracurricular activities really necessary for college? Right now I'm in the 10th grade and I haven't joined any clubs or joined any sports yet. I'm also shy and I hate public speaking and have no leadership skill so that's a problem for me and a lot of extracurricular activities need that skill. I'm no good at sports and and I don't have time for clubs. In the beginning of the year I went to check out key club but that club required a lot of donations and driving around. My parents are busy almost 24/7 and I don't know how to drive. I'd like to try drama to fix my shyness but I don't have time to participate in play productions after school. So I'd like to take classes during in school. Are there any electives that count as extracurricular activities I can take during class time? Are extracurricular activities really that important for college; what are colleges looking for? I have high scores on standardized tests and hopefully I'll score high on the SAT. Would that be enough?

Im a sophomore in high school, and im stressin about grades. Up to 7th grade i was an all A student, and then in 8th i became A/B, in freshman year i was like 3.0 avg gpa and now im in sophomore year second quarter with like a 3.4 gpa. im really stressing out about college... for the past 3 years it seems like ive dozed out or somethin, and i really wanna turn my grades around and get A's. I know im capable of it. my goal is to go to a medical school and get my phd in either dentistry or orthopedic surgery. My question is, have i dug a hole too deep to get out of, or is medical school still a possibility for me? im really stressing out about it, and i feel like because of these past 2 years i wont even be able to get into a college. please, i need suggestions and honest, critical answers. thanks.

Consider this:

I recently decided to start attending college, yet my family is criticizing my decision. They argue that i should focus on working so i can start earning money. When i begin school, they fear i'll not have as much time to spend with family. Not to mention, my family worries that college will change me—that i will become too “mainstream.” As the first person in my family to pursue higher education, i thinks my family members have a prejudicial attitude towards higher education and that they should accept my decision. Am I wrong?

If you were me, how would you address your family’s criticisms of and attitudes about higher education?

How would you try to convince family members that going to college is a worthwhile endeavor?

right now, im a freshman in college and today i tried to list what courses i have to take in order to graduate. i want to get a BA in english and minor in japanese to try get into my college's law school. however, a freshman advisor told me that if i minor in japanese, i might as well major in it. today when i was trying to figure out the classes i have to take for the rest of my stay in college, i was shocked to realize how much work it would take to get that major in japanese (i have to take 12 courses more of japanese to get a BA). i can't think of a way to try get both majors at the same time. i thought maybe summer classes but i think i would be so overwhelmed with trying to fit in these classes. getting a minor in japanese is much more attainable than getting a major in it! what do you guys think i should do? is it true that having a double major can add a year or two to graduation?

I need to take one on the A-F grading scale and one one the S/N grading scale (the easier one) and I can't decide which for which!!!

Astronomy is much more interesting but it has a lot of physics which I'm not good at and History of Rome just dulls me with all the names and kings and whatnot.

What do you guys think?

Does anybody know where I can find information relating to rankings for masters programs in public relations and/or advertising? I know US News releases rankings but I haven't been able to find it for this specific program. I am more interested in finding what the difference is between programs in different schools. I also want to get an idea of how selective a program is in different schools.

Does anybody know what schools are considered "good" for public relations or advertising? Especially on the east or west coast and in the midwest?
