5 days a week, 40 miles each way. I would be driving a car and living with my girlfriend because theres no campus housing and it would be most convienent. Housing is very expensive near the school...so its a tough decision. any other suggestions? besides living closer

It'll kill you. Really not worth it for 5 days a week.

I'd just find a place to crash that's nearby. Visit your g/f on the weekends. 40 miles one way the entire week? Totally would NOT recommend it.

I did 25 miles one way my first year. Wouldn't recommend that either.

Get a modest place of your own a bit farther away from school or on a bus line and get a part time job. You got to live someplace. I don't know if you are living in an urban area and the 40 miles will take your hours to drive twice a day. What's your time worth (you have to study) and wear and tear and insurance and gas on your car. You could try to find a car pool.

I have the exact same problem - I have to commute 25 miles each way to my college. My recommendation is to make up your schedule so you don't have classes every day, and instead try to pack as many as you can into the days when you are planning to commute - this saves an amazing amount of time. I have most of my classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, so I only have to make the commute two days a week, and spend the rest of the time at home working. It all depends on how your college schedules things, though, so you have to look at that for yourself.

If you can AFFORD the gas/travel expense, who cares (if the travel time doesn't bother you).
