right now, im a freshman in college and today i tried to list what courses i have to take in order to graduate. i want to get a BA in english and minor in japanese to try get into my college's law school. however, a freshman advisor told me that if i minor in japanese, i might as well major in it. today when i was trying to figure out the classes i have to take for the rest of my stay in college, i was shocked to realize how much work it would take to get that major in japanese (i have to take 12 courses more of japanese to get a BA). i can't think of a way to try get both majors at the same time. i thought maybe summer classes but i think i would be so overwhelmed with trying to fit in these classes. getting a minor in japanese is much more attainable than getting a major in it! what do you guys think i should do? is it true that having a double major can add a year or two to graduation?

Yes, a double major can add a year or two to graduation.

12 courses is at least a year (one year on quarter scale, can be more if it's by semester). If you don't want to wait that year, just minor in it.

Law schools care most about grades and your LSAT score. Having a major in Japanese over a minor in it is barely going to register with them. Unless you must have that major or plan on working in Japan one day, I'd just stick with the minor. It doesn't sound like you want the major that bad.

Taking a double major isn't that bad. Instead of doing a bunch of electives, you'd be doing a double major with fewer electives. A lot of people think it's stressful and if you can't handle it, don't do it. It would only add a year or two until graduation if you don't plan your schedule accordingly. A lot of people take a minor and think "hmm, I want to major in this too" and end up spending more time in undergrad than planned. Really though, if you're final goal is law school pretty much any major will do and you can just decide for yourself.

yes, but only a year, and maybe even less if you are willing to work harder... i really dont think the minor major thing is going to honestly impact your career or goal in life but still damn , good luck♥
