I'm talking about bachelor's degree for now, but eventually I would like to go for a masters. There are no colleges close enough to me to get a degree in the field that I'm interested in.

I am a new LPN, I will also graduate with my ADN in July. I don't have any previous medical background and have only been able to land a job in a nursing home. I really want to get into a hospital but even after numerous applications, they just don't call me. What can I do to get into a hospital? I only worked at the nursing home for three months and just recently resigned, that is just not what I am looking for. Any advise?

I am a current international student living in the US. I'm really thinking of applying to UCLA for the class of 2012.

Though, since UCs favor California residents, would I be in great disadvantage? (By the way, I lived in California for 2 years now, so that would make me a California resident) However, would it not matter since I hold an international status?

I know all of the rankings. That's not what I'm looking for. I want to get an idea for what individuals think about these schools (and if it matters I'd be going for grad school)...

Stanford
Columbia
Michigan State
Ohio State
University of Hawaii
University of Oregon
University of California, Santa Cruz

I'm a soon-to-be graduate of a well respected public university with a top ten department in anthropology (my major and intended field in grad school). I have decent GRE scores (around 80th percentile and I intend to take them again), a 3.7 GPA, and over a year of research experience in biological anthropology. With that said, I only intend to get a Master's degree and was wondering whether it would be more beneficial for me to apply to elite universities with lower ranking anthro departments (such as Columbia) or schools with poorer overall academic reputations that have top notch anthro. departments (like U of Arizona). I know Prof. X always says to apply to the best departments and then follow the money, but the reason I asked this question is because I likely won't be working in the field of anthropology.

Last August, my classmates and I took an entrance examination to the most prestigious university in our country. I took the exam not to study there but just to see if I could pass it. Then, the results came last Monday and I’m one of the 5 students at school who are accepted at the main campus (the university has other campuses all over the country), and the main campus is the hardest one to enter. My classmates said I should study there, and it’s such a big opportunity. But my parents said I can’t because it’s too far from our home and I’m not responsible enough and of course, the 300% tuition hike is something they can’t afford. As for me, a part of me wants to go there and meet all those intelligent people that I see on TV but the other part wants to stay here in our city and study at our local school where I’ve spent my elementary and high school years. I’m really confused. Of course, if I choose to study there, my parents would have to agree. Please give me advice…

My mom especially seems to have a big problem with all the womens studies classes I'm taking. Today, she was like "you're taking ANOTHER women's studies class? that's insane! i can't believe there's a whole major for that."
And a few weeks ago she told me that my classes were brainwashing me with crazy information.
What can I say to her to justify me taking these classes? Thanks 4 your help.
