I am a new LPN, I will also graduate with my ADN in July. I don't have any previous medical background and have only been able to land a job in a nursing home. I really want to get into a hospital but even after numerous applications, they just don't call me. What can I do to get into a hospital? I only worked at the nursing home for three months and just recently resigned, that is just not what I am looking for. Any advise?

When you get your RN, you will not have a problem getting a job. I don't know where you are, but in my area LVNs mainly working in nursing homes. They hire MAs for the doctor's offices and RNs for everything else.

Most hospitals are going to RN's only.. Doctor;s offices use LPN's, some schools use LPN's.. how about home health nursing.. U are usually just in the home a few minutes a week or month.. MUCH easier than nursing homes... Traveling nurses make a LOT of $ (if u can travel)...Have u thought about a retirement home .. it's different than nursing home..they can pretty much take care of themselves.

Most of the hospitials in my area only hire RNs. They have an LPN to RN course at most community colleges here. They require you to work as an LPN for 1 year, BUT the courses they take have a LOT less pre-req's . If your hospitials do hire LPNs I advise getting to know someone who works there or has been hired there. Try some of the hospitials you did your clinics in or perhaps take a less desirable shift....3rd or we-op. They really do pay better shift differentials. Hope this helps.

There are very, very few LPN jobs where I live. A lot of hospitals just don't use them anymore. You will get calls on your applications after you have your RN license.

A lot of hospitals are looking for RNs or BSNs. You might want to look into getting that.
