I am in grad school in math (2nd yr). I have been suffering from acute depression. I keep thinking about how low and worthless I am. Most of my batchmates who took real jobs seem to have both money and power, i have neither; i make $16500 a yr, less than a janitor. I am forced to bow to cocky undergraduates day after day. I hate teaching assistantships, they are more like having to lick up the stuff that is undigested in prof's lectures and feed it again. recently the dept moved me into an office no larger than a writing desk and now they are talking about whether grad students should have offices at all. I wonder what my fault is that I have become such a total failure. At times the pain gets so acute that I feel that if slitting my throat with a butcher knife is the only way out... so be it. leaving is not an option because that way I would have to give up everything i ever lived for. no money to consult a doctor.

went 2 didn't prepare me 4 the IB program that I'm taking altho I know that if I work very hard I'm capable of doing it.When I 1st came 2 this school,it was very tough.I was behind in math & was doing junior level stuff.But at the time I wanted 2 learn & do my best.though I was barely getting any sleep & was extremely stressed, i still loved learning.part of y i was stressed is b/c i lack organization & time management skills (which i didn't really need in midl school).i still have this problem.i really do try 2 focus but i just can't.& what's added 2 this is that now,i just don't have that love 4 learning anymore & i just wanna quit & not think about school.i'm burned out.but again i want a good future. i feel like i need a break 2 figure my self out & solve some problems.so should i stay @ this skool, then apply 4 next year 2 a math & science boarding school(excellent, but no time except on week-ends)./go 2 my home high,then apply 2 it. ivy league 4 undergrad/grad skool? vry cnfusd.

Q.) In a future hydrogen-fuel economy, the cheapest source of H2 will certainly be water. it takes 467kJ to produce 1 mol of H atoms from water. what is the frequency, wavelength, and minimum energy of a photon that can free an H atom from water?

V=E/h-->> { (467kJ)(10^3J/1KJ) (mol/6.022x10^23) / (6.626x10^-34) }
E=7.75x10^-19
V=1.17x10^15

Lamda=hc/E-->> { (6.626x10^-34J) (3.00x10^8) / (7.75x10^-19) }
Lamda=2.56x10^-7

I sent my application to Northwestern by express mail yesterday, but I found out today that they have a special address for express mail and I had sent it to their main address.

I tracked the application online and it said that a notice was left, which someone from Northwestern must sign before they can receive my application. They will leave another notice, but if no one signs that they mail my application back to me. Which is very bad.

Early decision is due November 1st & the post office is closed, so I can't send another application until tomorrow, which is the deadline!

Does the November 1st deadline include postmarked items? If it does, how can I get this mail received by Northwestern??

My son is born on 21/10/1995. Now in class V. Very good at studies. Has an very strong inclination to become a pilot. Accordingly I too wanted to get him admitted in any technical school at the earlieast occasion.Now i saw the Advy for admission for SAINIK SCHOOLS but to my misfortune, he is not fitting into the criteria for appearing at the entrance test undr "over age" ground. May be because of my mistake by getting him admitted in "Nursery" at the age of 4 plus instead of getting him admitted directky in LKG. After knowing that he is not eliible not only he but I am too quite upset for the wrong planning. Can any one suggest me any Technical Institution/Vourse which he can take up at the earliest to form a good base of the future plans to become a PILOT(and for that mater build a careear in Army/Air force/Naval/Merchant Navy & the likes ?

I graduated with a B.S. in biomedical engineering from a good school. My GPA isn't that great, cumulative is 3.0 and major is 3.2. Do I have a chance to get into a master's program in biomed engineering with my GPA? I really want to get into R&D in industry. Last year, I applied to some tough schools like Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech, Boston U, UCSD, but I didn't get into any of them! It was so disappointing. My GRE scores are fine and I have good rec letters. What do schools look for in master's students?? Any recommendations of other schools I should apply to? It seems easier to apply for the PhD program since graduate committee see those applicants being more serious about research.

I mean, Computer Science is a much tougher major than the majority out there. I've always been an A student since elementary to High School, and 2-yr college. However now that I transfered to a 4 yr college, and about to graduate after 2 1/2 years being there... I just can't bring it above that range.

Is it bad? should I instead repeat some courses to bring it up?
what should I do?

Thanks!

This question is mainly for English majors. I am doing a research paper on the above topic. I am using disney's pirates of the Caribbean moives : The Curse of the Black Pear, & Dead Man's Chest [starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley] as an example to support different aspects of the use and function of language and I need some ideas for a thesis statement. Any hints on examples on use and functions of language greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Several schools offer programs that allow you to combined your grad school education with the Peace-Corps program. I want to do both Peace-Corps and Grad school. None of the school i really want to go to offer this, and the programs are not as academic as i would like. The advantage is saving some time, cool life experience, and tuition would be reduced.

Any thoughts people?
