I sent my application to Northwestern by express mail yesterday, but I found out today that they have a special address for express mail and I had sent it to their main address.

I tracked the application online and it said that a notice was left, which someone from Northwestern must sign before they can receive my application. They will leave another notice, but if no one signs that they mail my application back to me. Which is very bad.

Early decision is due November 1st & the post office is closed, so I can't send another application until tomorrow, which is the deadline!

Does the November 1st deadline include postmarked items? If it does, how can I get this mail received by Northwestern??

I tried to call them, but the admissions department is closed until 8am tomorrow.

Really, the only thing you can do is wait until tomorrow morning and call the admissions office. I don't know about NU's undergrad program to much as I'm at the law school, but all of the people that I have had to deal with are really professional and helpful. They'll tell you what is best to do.

And even if your application gets there a couple of days later and you can't apply early decision, you will still have approximately the same chance of getting in, if not exactly the same. So don't freak out. Everything will work out.

Call the admissions department tomorrow morning and ask them if it will still arrive to the processing office. If not, send in another copy tomorrow morning overnight express by FedEx--it's guaranteed to get there the next day. Yes, it'll be a day late, but since you will have already told them what happened, they should be lenient.

Your best bet is to call the admissions department and explain your situation. I'm not saying that it will help but it won't hurt. Good luck.
