Hi! I'm a student in college and I would like to become an Etymologist. The trouble is... I don't know how!! I would really appreciate some help finding out.
I am studying French, English Lit, Maths and Chemistry at A Level if that helps at all!?

Many Thanks

Get your degree in languages first. Then work on your English and as many languages as possible. It's not a big field. But every generation needs a couple.

I think that Lancaster University offers Etymology studies. I am currently doing a Lancaster Uni Accredited English B.A. at Blackpool and the Fylde College and we use the L.U. linguistics website (run by none other than Dr Mick Short!) for help with revision. Try going online and checking it out, I am sure they will be able to help!

Good luck!

p.s. I would also love to go into this sort of field, maybe forensic linguistics. Our tutor told us about forensics and it sounds fascinating!

wouldn't you rather be an entomologist? No, ok then. Anyway, if I were you I would go to see a career's adviser. Or see which Universities offer linguistics or etymology as a subject, and find out what grades you need to get on their courses. If you find one you like, phone the University's admissions and ask if they can give you any advice on activities you can be doing to supplement your a'levels to improve your chances of getting on the course you want. Good luck.
