Tough question here really...I'm a college student, receiving a fairly consistant flow of revenue weekly/monthly, but essentially with an unestablished credit score. I have and will be saving for a 32" -42" LCD or plasma TV, but it really has been a hassle planning day-to-day mealplans to conserve money to save when I could easily save just as much casually on a monthly basis (meaning set some aside at my leisure each week, roughly $100 a week) to pay the TV off.

Is it more intelligent to simply wait it out and save up $1300 or so for the TV and have to plan each day's meal to do so? Or to get a credit card, purchase the set with 700 dollars I already have and casually pay it off monthly ($300-400 a month)? I know...credit cards are satan, but a) Can I even really get one with a nonexistant credit score, b) Will I have the kind of limit to afford charging $600 on the card) and c) Is it worth it?
Best Buy has a no interest 'till 2010 thing going is why I ask.

Thanks all.

I currently have an amplified Phillips indoor antenna which I can place just outside the door and get good reception from the towers in my area (40 mi away). If I get an outdoor mid-range antenna (as suggested by antennaweb, w/ a pre-amp) do I really need the pre-amp you think? I'm looking at this one: http://www.antennasdirect.com/42XG_television_antenna.html

Also, how does the signal strength affect the actual reception? Regardless of if I'm 70 on the scale or 90, I really can't tell a big difference.

I have 3 round cables and 2 flat ones. The flat ones measure 1.1/4" (30mm). The only ones I can seem to find cater for only 2-3 round cables in a spiral

I just ordered Directv and I live in an apartment complex in which does not allow drilling holes in the balcony or roof and I talked to the customer service rep who said they could bring me a tripod upon installation, which is this Thursday. My question is, has anyone gotten a tripod from them, or know how much they charge for them? I was told I would have to pay for it on the spot and it wouldn't be added to my bill so I'm kinda worrying on the cost factor here, I get paid tomorrow, but as some can relate theres also other bills I have to worry about and can't be shelling out money left and right. Thanks!

Already tried moving speakers and all other electronic away from it. Lines are mostly red, green, and blue. Some are curves and some are straight

I can make a nice stable tv stand for a plamsa or LCD Tv that is only 16" deep. All over stands on the market are over 2 feet deep.

How many of you would be looking for something like that so I would know weather to start producing them or not???

I am tempted to buy one, but don't want to waste my money. I remember the days of rabbit ears and channels coming in fuzzy or not at all.

Please make suggestions on the best 37 - 42 inch TVs to purchase eventhough I will not have the cable company's HD package.

I have seen Akai 37" (with a DVD player attached) and also Vizio, along with others.

Does anyone own any of the above sets, or have her reviews on them? I could not locate on consumerreports.

I do not know that much about these sets, just that these sets are what others are buying. Although I will purchase a set, I will order the HD package that is offered by cable company. I just want a bigger screen.

Which set will give me the better/best picture without have the HD hookup?

I thank you in advance. - Curt

i tuned it in correctly, but she keeps on having problems, and called the tv man out, who says its because the box is the wrong one for the tv, as it only has one scart lead socket, could this be right, or is he trying to con an elderly woman. i dont seem to have any problems with it, when i visit her, or my kids visit her

We are moving into a new house and will be buying a new TV when we move. We definitely want a 42" flat screen. My first choice is the Westinghouse 42" 1080p Monitor which Crutchfield (and others) have for about $1500.

However, if it is possible to find a decent display at that same size, for maybe a little cheaper, I might consider it. Especially if it was still 1080p (although that is not a deal maker or breaker).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

NOTE - the reason for the desire to have full 1080p is due to the fact that I will be hooking up a home theater PC; every bit of resoultion helps in that case.

I have a basic understanding about the different formats of HD, ie that 1080i is an interlaced picture, with 1080p being the best? My question is, if a TV is listed as having a screen resolution of, for example, 1024x768 what HD format is the screen capable of displaying?

I plugged it into my TV and I can only get ITV. Do you have to tune it? It's a antenna aerial. My TV is pretty old so it could be that!
