I am tempted to buy one, but don't want to waste my money. I remember the days of rabbit ears and channels coming in fuzzy or not at all.

Yes you sure can! I am watching the NFL playoffs via a small antenna hooked up to my 42" plasma HDTV and it looks great. Even my wife comments on how clear the picture is!
The only catch is you have to be close to the broadcast antenna and there can't be anything large (building / mountain) blocking the signal.

Everybody's situation is different in HD antenna's. It's a bit of a gamble. Some people get all HD channels nice and clear and others get nothing. Some factors are how close you are to the TV towers & hills and mountains around your house. I live about 45 miles from the closest tower and I'm able to get some HD local channels but not all. The ones that I do get come in very clear and HD quality is very good. I have a Terk indoor antenna.

You CAN get HD quality over any UHF (ie HD) antenna, IF you have a HD tuner in your TV, OR you buy an external HD tuner. You cannot get HD quality on a SD (old) tv! You CAN get great picture quality on a SD (old) tv IF you buy an external HD tuner.
Keep in mind that HD is only ONE of many digital TV formats. Many tv channels will NOT be in HD! They WILL be digital, but since you can fit many different tv stations into what used to be a single channel, you may find that broadcasters will put out more than one channel, with decreased detail, instead of one HD channel. Then they can sell more advertising etc.
At some point there will BE no old fashioned broadcast tv, about 2009 I think.. you will HAVE to buy an external receiver (like the kind you get in a VCR etc!) that is digital, OR have cable, OR satellite. Or maybe even broadband by then.

Yes you can. Problem is you might not get any signals in your particular area. Check the links bellow to find stations in your area. The second link will tell you which antenna to buy. I would go one stronger just to be safe. As for the person saying that UHF is digital, thats only partially true. Right now most channels in digital are UHF only because the VHF band is used up from pre-existing analog channels. In Feb. of 09' when all analog is supposed to drop off, it is implied that the VHF band will then be used for digital. Thats good news since VHF signals travel up to twice as far as UHF.
By the way, the only difference between an analog antenna and a digital one is the sticker on the box (and possibly the price tag).

Yes, you can spend as little as like $25 and buy a hd antenna with a hd reciever and the quality does rock!
You may want to opt for a motorized antenna though.

Yes you can get HD with a regular antenna you don't need a Hi Def [more money for the company who puts Hi Def on the box] just a regular antenna,but first you got to know if there are any stations in your area that broadcast in Hi Def GO TO www.antennaweb.org for your answer good luck

Yes you can. The real question is do you have a digital tuner in or connected to you TV. With a digital tuner you will not get ghosts. The digital signal does not allow ghost to occur so if you get a signal it is a good signal. Those people seeing ghosts on HD set are using the NTSC tuner and not the ASTC tuner or do not have an ASTC tuner.
