There are two variations of DVI, DVI-I (analog) and DVD-D (Digital). DVI-I is used to connect PCs via a VGA to DVI cable.
DVD-D can be used to connect set-top boxes, DVD players, via an HDMI-DVD-D cable.

So, make sure your TV supports DVD-D (it probably does, but check the User Guide) and then check you have the correct cable.

DVI ports are definitely not the same as HDMI ports. But in your case, this is a bit weird. How can a DVI port have the same shape as an HDMI one? You should consult the manufacturer about this quirky mystery.

For HDMI usually it's plug and go and don't need any adjustment. If it doesn't work normally I guess something not match or your TV HDMI receiver not match and can't decode the HDMI signal your home theater transmit. But need and expert advices to analyzes deeper about this problem
