Software (Computers & Internet) - November 2006

I have just bought a dell ultrapotable off ebay,
and it came with no cdrom/floppy drive and no software and i need to install windows xp on to it. The only thing that i could come up with was to copy the whole windows cd on to my portable 40g usb harddrive then boot from it, does anyone have a better idea?

Why is my PhotoShop not letting me work on some layers?

I've never had this problem before, but when I'm at work using a newer version of photoshop on previously created artwork (photoshop files that someone else at work created) I try to use the erasure or paint tool and it doesn't work. The history will show that I used it but the image does not change. This doesn't happen on all the files just some. I don't get it.
I've tried copying the layer and pasting it to use it as a new document but it still will not let me erase or draw on the new document either. WHAT IS GOING ON!!! It is beyond frustrating!

Please help!

How do I delete windows 98?

I have windows xp and windows 98 on my computer. I don't use windows 98 because it doesn't work well. I would like to delete windows 98 but I don't know how. Can someone please help me?

Can anyone help me with my Outlook Express problem? I can't write/ send e-mails or open the address book?

When I click on "create mail" I get the message "There was an error opening this message. An error has occurred".

When I try to open my address book I get the message "unable to open address book. Address book may not be installed correctly". Occasionally I also get a message saying "Address Book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install".

I've tried deinstalling and reinstalling Security update 911567, and Service pack 2, as suggested in the Microsoft Knowlege Base. I've also tried copying my address book .wab files to my desktop, deleting the originals etc as suggested in knowlege base article 917288 but I still get the same messages.

I'm running Windows XP and Outlook Express 6.0

Microsoft Excel question-should be easy for some of you guys!?

I have a spreadsheet that I use for billing and want to find out how I can make a few of the cells blink or flash so that whoever is using it does not forget to add the appropriate tax rates, for example (there are several more cells that will be specific to the person using it). How do I go about formatting the cell to do this in my worksheet?

Ok anyone, can you guys explain this?

Everytime I try to instal Windows Media Player 11. It says it cant validate my copy of windows is Genuine. What the hell? can anyone tell me how to get that thing off and get the windows Media Player 11. Dont tell me to get a genuine version or anything coz i dont wanna do that. I know some **** about hacking but this this is gettin in my nerver lol.

im currently using the trial version of windows vista and my cd rom doesnt work. it says i need the driver for it.. but i cant open it because its in a cd and my rom doesnt work. HELP PLEASE! im begging here..

what's the best program for finding folders with the most data in them/?

I've used FolderSizes, which is good but not quite good enough to pay for. I'd like a neat little utility that ranks the biggest folders so that I can home in on things that are wasting space and tidy them. Any ideas?

Does anyone know where I can get/make a template for a birth chart?

I don't even need it to be strictly astrological... I just need to know how to make a circle cut up into 12 equal pieces, with a free program. It would be better, of course, if there was a program that allowed me to easily insert the houses and planets, but it's not necessary. Let me know. Thanks.

Help with windows xp shutdown?

When i close down it says program not responding with the heading CCAPPS. I have scoured my hard drive for this to no avail. Can anyone shine any light on it... it's bugging me.
