Highlight the area that you want boxes, then pick CELLS from the FORMAT menu. Click on BORDERS, then set the borders that you need TURNED ON.

Instead of using borders, which can be confusing, go to the File Menu, then Page Setup. On the Sheet tab, under Printing, check mark the box named Gridlines.

Format the spreadsheet and add lines.
The ones you see by default are just there to help you adding content.
Select the area you want to print,
right click,
select format cells.
Choose the border tab, add a perimeter and interior lines.

Select the area you want to have the lines around, click on borders button in the toolbar (its a square with a + in and the bottom underlined) and click on the one which is 3rd row down and 2nd one along. This should put borders around the area you want, so it shows when it prints.
