Software - November 2006

I have lots of DivX movies downloaded from the net. I have a CD writer, but not a DVD writer. I would like to burn all the DivX movies to CD-R. I am planning to buy a new standalone DivX/XviD compatible DVD player. Your suggestions in that regard are always welcome.

I have scads of CD's filed away with all of my digital photos and documents on them. My husband just told me his professor said recordable CD's have a dye that will break down within five years. What good are these things if they only last five years? I might as well have printed everything and filed it old school! Is he wrong, or do I have to re-burn everything twice a decade?

Ok, so I have a Compaq Presario Desktop and I am having some serious issues with this thing. .Before I moved, my computer worked fine.. my dvd-writer/cd writer combo worked fine.. it would burn cds and dvds, copy them, read them, everything.. Now, when I unplugged my computer to move it, and then I plugged it back in, the whole dang thing crashed, so I redid it.. rebooted, re-installed software.. Now, my dvd-writer combo isn't working. I've tried four or five different software applications and none of them are working.. I've called Compaq, but every time I do what they say, it's wrong too. Like I said, it did everything before, played dvds and cds *both burned and copyrighted* burned cds and dvds and copied them.. .Now, the only thing that it is letting me do is play copyrighted cd's.. No burning, no playing dvds, no playing pcdvd's, nothing... i can only play cd's that are copyrighted, and sometimes it won't even let me do that... Someone, Please Help Me... I am in dire need of help!

How can I transfer 2832 .jpg photographs from my hard disc to a DVD?

I'm an old man (77) and not too familiar with the workings of my computer, so please be patient with me when replying:

Please let me know of a free programme that will let me transfer my collection of photographs to a blank DVD.

An alternative free programme, would be very useful to me, just in case.......

Can you also, give me a simple 'run through' of the steps I have to take to make the DVD.

Will be so grateful.

it made a big difference but now I'm not sure how to go about defraging my computer. It used to be where I would go to My Computer and click on C drive then right click on properties to start to defrag. But now everything has changed and I;m not sure how. Does anybody know how?

This should be really easy, but I can't figure it out. (dur)
I have just enough rows to print on one sheet of paper.
But one of the titles for the row doesn't fit in the box.
I type the title and it runs into the row next to it, then when I click off it hides behind the other row.
How can I make it so the title goes up and down in one box rather then across?

Does that make sense? lol

i bought a pc with 1 hard drive C: and it came with a recovery cd ,not a windows xp cd. i managed to partition the drive but cant put a different operating system on the other partition. i partitioned the drive using partition magic 8. Any help would be great!
