It depends on how long you will spend on each slide. If you talk for 10 minutes on each, that's 12 slides. If you have them transitioning every 10 seconds, that's 720 slides.
EDIT: Prepare a 2 hr presentation on the surgical procedure with out making any slides. Than put together slides for your visual aids, and to cover main points in bullet points. The slides are just a tool to make what you are saying more easily understood. Make your outline for 2 hrs; add slides in where they help.

Depends... the slides are to provide a basic outline. You can have 5 bullet points but it may take you 5 minutes or even 50 minutes to talk about those items.
Create an outline and think about the things you can go into details. Remember to allow time for Q&A.
The most important thing to remember is that people want to hear you talk. They're not there to read off of slides. Don't rely on the PowerPoint slides for the whole presentation. If all the info is on the slides, then they really don't need you to be there, do they?

Well, it depends on how long you want each slide to last. In 2 hours, there are 120 minutes. If each slide shows for 10 seconds, that would be 720 slides. If each slide is shown for 15 seconds, that would be 480 slides, and if each is shown for 30 seconds, it would take 240 slides.

It really depends on how long each slide will take. You can have 2 slides that are 1 hour each, or you can have 120 slides that are 1 minute each.

If you are doing a presentation you will be doing quite a bit of talking between each slide. You will not just be clicking straight from one to another. therefore I would suggest you make out your little speeches first and then add the slides as appropriate. I would think that 100 would be plenty.

I use a general rule of 1 - 2 slides per minute (usually closer to one). You may want to consider duplicating some of the images and putting in arrows rather than use the laser pointer. Changing the light balance may reveal strucures in shadow, so there are a number of questions to ask yourself. It's easier to have too many slides and pull a few, during rehearsal than too few and need to stretch. Any slides you dont use can go to the end in case someone asks the right question.
