Ok, so I have a Compaq Presario Desktop and I am having some serious issues with this thing. .Before I moved, my computer worked fine.. my dvd-writer/cd writer combo worked fine.. it would burn cds and dvds, copy them, read them, everything.. Now, when I unplugged my computer to move it, and then I plugged it back in, the whole dang thing crashed, so I redid it.. rebooted, re-installed software.. Now, my dvd-writer combo isn't working. I've tried four or five different software applications and none of them are working.. I've called Compaq, but every time I do what they say, it's wrong too. Like I said, it did everything before, played dvds and cds *both burned and copyrighted* burned cds and dvds and copied them.. .Now, the only thing that it is letting me do is play copyrighted cd's.. No burning, no playing dvds, no playing pcdvd's, nothing... i can only play cd's that are copyrighted, and sometimes it won't even let me do that... Someone, Please Help Me... I am in dire need of help!

You could think about simply buying a new drive... they're not that much these days. In my experience, optical drives dont last all that long. Mine generally see pretty heavy use, so I average a new drive every 8-10 months. They can also be quite delicate. If it took a knock or two when you moved it, it could easily have damaged something on the inside.

No. Reformatting relatively erases *each little thing* at thechronic. issues can nonetheless be recovered utilising incredibly expert pc methods (relatively until the information is overwritten some circumstances components of it relatively is recovered). Reformatting must be relatively the final hotel to fixing a computing device difficulty. you could finally end up with a pile of rubbish that was a computing device because of the fact which you lack serious drivers to run significant onboard gadgets. in case you do no longer know what you're doing, do no longer do it.

you need to assure your hardware has the correct drivers. Do you have a recovery disk with your system drivers? If not look for your drivers on HP's website with your Presario's model # and try to locate the driver for your CD drive. If you have the disk and you can get your reader to recognize it, right click on my computer, select manage, then device manager, browse to your CD drive right click and select update driver, direct it to your recovery disk and it should automatically find the appropriate driver. If you have the CD and can't get your drive to recognize it, then try to copy the CD drivers from the disk on a different PC and put them on a floppy if you have a floppy drive, you can use that. If not then you are stuck with downloading them via the web. All you need is the make and model of your CD drive and you can get them online at places like www.driverguide.com, or maybe HP's website. But it definitely sounds like a driver problem if you can rule out the possibility of a hardware failure. Also please assure you have the appropriate burning software, roxio, nero, etc.
