I have lots of DivX movies downloaded from the net. I have a CD writer, but not a DVD writer. I would like to burn all the DivX movies to CD-R. I am planning to buy a new standalone DivX/XviD compatible DVD player. Your suggestions in that regard are always welcome.

You can just directly burn them on to a cd-r or a dvd-r and start watching on your standalone player as long as your player supports DivX

Install Nero 7 or a more newer version.
in it go to nero startsmart.
Then choose cd from the drop down list in the top center of the program windiw instead of cd/dvd which is the default.
then go to audi and video (the fourth picture from the left) and then click on make Super video cd to do the required work.
But check that the DVD player you buy is capable of playing vcds properly.

It can not be done. There is a reason people buy DVD burners. If we could do it on CD burners the DVD burner would be unnecessary.
