I've never had this problem before, but when I'm at work using a newer version of photoshop on previously created artwork (photoshop files that someone else at work created) I try to use the erasure or paint tool and it doesn't work. The history will show that I used it but the image does not change. This doesn't happen on all the files just some. I don't get it.
I've tried copying the layer and pasting it to use it as a new document but it still will not let me erase or draw on the new document either. WHAT IS GOING ON!!! It is beyond frustrating!

Please help!

There can be a lot of reasons for this:

1: check if the layer you want to work on is locked

2: check if you not activated a selection (without seeing it - ctrl+H or apple+H), ctrl+D or apple+D to deselect all and try again

This is what I can think of right now...
Is it only you that keeps on having this problem, or also some collegues? Maybe restart photoshop can help too, unless you keep on having the same problem on the same file of course...
Does it happen on all layers of that document or just on some layers??? I know it can be frustrating if you don't know why these things happen...
If the above doesn't help, you can try mailing me a file, I can see for myself then... I'm curious too now.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
