I think i have a virus on my computer, bc for the last couple of days i keep on getting this high risk warning saying that the file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfgmt.dll" (fom Downloader...what ever that is) can not be repaired. i have tried eresing my temporary files, cookies, and full system scan with Norton 2005, but none of it works, i even tried to search my computer for the file but i could not move it from the window or delete it. As you can probably tell i dont know much about computers and if my parents find out what happened i'll be grounded until i turn 50!! Someone plz help me.

The computer has an Administrator account, but I do not know the password for the account. The guest account on the computer does not grant me the joy of reformatting my hard drive, only the administrator can do that..... Safe mode doesn't work, as it still wants a password.

My teacher made the comment that hackers scan. He also said that IPv4 is easy to scan and IPv6 is more difficult to scan because of the sparse use of IP addresses.

So again I say, what is scanning?

If I download the trial version of Titanium, will it work? At least while I decide whether to keep it or find something else? I already started to install it and it prompted me to uninstall an "incompatible program"(Norton Internet Security.) Will that also uninstall Norton AntiVirus? Also, will Panda detect and eliminate the virus(the Downloader virus!!!) already on my computer? I have to say up until now,I was satisfied with Norton but their inability to delete the virus after I had my computer scanned and it found the virus REALLY REALLY ticked me off!!!!!! Also,I can't believe their customer service-their product fails and they want to charge nearly $70 to help me remove the virus and then they can't even guarantee it'll work!!! But...before this turns into a Norton-bashing thing,I really would like to know what people think of Panda!! Should I try trial version and possibly get full(Platinum)version later?I like to know mainly about Panda;But..what other programs do people like too?

I ONLY want people who've had this specific problem (and were able to fix it) to reply!! I can't get rid of this adware, and I've tried TrendMicro, SpyBot, AdAware6.0, Yahoo Anti-Spy...and nothing works!!! Some of them have detected the Adware, but they just can't remove it. It's funny how that company markets itself as antivirus/antiadware/antispyware but is a virus itself or adware/spyware. I am really frustrated because when I am in the middle of something, out of nowhere, the stupid thing pops up(it happens about 5 times a day), and it takes about 2 minutes for me to close out all the adware windows and for me to resume what I was doing on the internet. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!

I work for a small company of about 250 people at 10 different sites in a small region. A new policy just came down preventing the use of IM's and management wants me to monitor who is using it and to prevent them from doing it. I don't necessarily agree with this as I know some employees use MSN effectively in dealing with customers, but it's not under my control. With the million other projects going on, there is no way I can keep up on this on a workstation specific basis. I'm still entry level IT and I have a few questions. We run on MS Server 2003.

1. How does your business address IM?
2. How does IM work? I blocked ports but this doesn't seem to work. Does it run through proxy?
3. Is there a way to limit how MSN is used? Is it possible to prevent file sharing, yet allow chat?
4. What have you done to not allow IM?

Thanks!
